18-Time Major Winner Jack Nicklaus Presents Coquitlam, BC's A.J. Ewart With The 2022 Jack Nicklaus Award

    By Brad Ewart

It’s not easy being a golf parent.

But, there are times when advice from another source can be very helpful. Especially when that source is Jack Nicklaus. In 2009 I was working on a golf construction project in Bangalore, India where Jack Nicklaus and his staff also happened to be in the early stages of designing a golf course.

Prior to arriving in India, the 12-man Nicklaus contingent made design stops in Japan and Korea and would be in India for only 24 hours. They toured the Nandi Hills site, Nicklaus made a number of design changes and then attended a dinner party with ten of the richest men in India.

The next morning, while the group was finishing breakfast and preparing to head off to the airport, I had the opportunity to ask Jack a few questions.

    By John Gordon/Golf Canada

On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, let’s get all the bad, frequently offensive, jokes out of the way first.  To speed up the process, I will provide just the punch lines to a couple of the hoariest groaners.

“No way! The last time I tried that shot, I made double bogey!”

“But you don’t understand. It’s my wife’s funeral.”

On a related note this February 14th, let’s officially bury the term “golf widow.” With that out of the way, let’s move on.

  • The ModGolf Podcast: Creating The "Linkedin For Golfers" - Lydia Davies, Founder And CEO Of Teemates

TeeMates was created when her now husband, Andrew - a self-proclaimed golf degenerate - would always send her photos of himself playing at course alone whilst on work travel. With golf growth rates off the charts, Lydia knew there must be others in his hotel or area that would want to join him on the tee box.

I am a perfect example of the opportunities that golf provides," says Deborah.

"I survived a fatal accident when I was 19, which changed my life in the blink of an eye. I went from running every day, dancing and golfing to fighting in order to ever walk again. Looking back, the understanding that I needed to put the time and work in and I wasn't going to see any results right away certainly helped me as I was recovering from my accident because I was disabled and disfigured from it."

  • Video: Women's World No.1 Nelly Korda Meets Tiger For First Time

“I didn’t want to bother you right now, but I really wanted a photo with you.” Nelly Korda is all of us meeting Tiger Woods for the first time.

Korda cemented her place as the most dominant player in the women's game when she secured gold at the Olympic Games, edging Mone Inami and Lydia Ko by one stroke

“Hi, Tiger,” Korda said as Woods wrapped up his opening round in the PNC Championship. “I was wondering if I could take a photo with you.” “Nelly. Yes. You got it. Done deal,” replied Woods... “I didn’t want to bother you right now, but I really wanted a photo,” Korda said.

Team Korda shot 9-under 63 and Team Woods – Tiger and son Charlie – shot 62. Woods also snapped a photo with Petr and Nelly’s brother, Sebastian, who is a top-50 tennis player.

Even the No. 1 player in the world can be awed. Nelly Korda may be the best player in women’s golf.. in this instance she was just a fan.

Why the greatest game has the cheesiest accessories is beyond me. You’ve seen them: Caddyshack gopher head covers, ugly sweaters and those visors with the fake hair sprouting out the top.

Note to my family: Buy me one of those and the next time you see one while walking through the local thrift store and remark, “Hey, that’s just like the one we got Uncle John for Christmas,” rest assured it is the same one.

So here’s the real stuff the golfer in your life (and likely you) want for Christmas.

  • Golf Carts Are Parked, Walking Is In and, Yes, It’s Exercise

Motorized carts have ferried golfers from hole to hole for 50 years, but more players these days are walking their rounds, and some courses have shunned carts entirely - Image Credit Jurgen Kaminski

    By Bill Pennington/NYTimes

There is a new movement afoot in recreational golf: walking.

In swelling numbers nationwide, golfers are spurning the motorized golf cart — a standard-bearer of American golf rounds for more than 50 years — and instead choosing to stride or stroll from shot to shot.

It has contributed to a substantial rise in rounds played and spawned another novel phenomenon: The verifiable notion that golf, when a round is walked, is exercise that can supplement a fitness regimen since golfers routinely burn 700 calories or more in an outing that can traverse up to six miles.
