Adam Cornelson has been there and done that. Unfortunately, he now has to do it all over again. Mike Belle has never done it before, but can’t wait to get started. 

The two Vancouver Golf Club members are heading to next week’s Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada qualifying school at Crown Isle Golf Course in Courtenay with very different perspectives. Belle is a 23-year-old rookie pro, who is anxious to test his game at the next level. Cornelson, 28, has been at the pro game for a few years and was hoping he’d seen the last of Q-school.

For the second straight year, the CP Women’s Open scheduled for Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club in Vancouver has been cancelled. 

The LPGA event, which had been set for Aug. 26-29, is once again a casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic and the current border and quarantine restrictions.

Golf Canada and tournament sponsor Canadian Pacific made the announcement late Wednesday afternoon.

The CPKC Women’s Open has won the LPGA Tour’s highest tournament honour for the second consecutive year.

The event, hosted Aug. 22-27 at Vancouver’s Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, was named the back-to-back winner of tour’s tournament of the Year at the LPGA’s annual year-end tournament awards Wednesday night.

“We really have a secret sauce,” tournament director Ryan Paul told The Canadian Press at the CME Group Tour Championship, the final event of the LPGA Tour season. “It’s really an incredible golf tournament. You’ve got the best players in the world a rope-line away from you, but outside the ropes there are so many great things that you can see and do.”

Megan Khang has done everything but win on the LPGA Tour. She has a great opportunity to finally cross that off her to-do list in Sunday’s final round of the CPKC Women’s Open at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club.

The 25-year-old Khang birdied four of her last five holes in Saturday’s third round to take a three-shot lead into Sunday. The Massachusetts native sits at 11-under through 54 holes on a Shaughnessy course that has proven to be a superb test.

“Honestly, I am relieved the day is over,” Khang said after her round. “It was kind of like you look at the leaderboard and you know who is behind you and you try to ignore it as much as you can, but it’s kind of scary.”

Victoria Liu was on the driving range early Wednesday afternoon at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club, which is not unusual. Shaughnessy has become a second home of sorts for the Vancouver resident, who is heading into her third year of collegiate golf at Princeton University.

But this was a little bit of a different range session.

To her left, Lexi Thomson was hitting balls, and a couple of spots to her right, Brooke Henderson was warming up.

It was a ‘this isn’t Kansas anymore’ type of moment for Liu, who on Thursday afternoon will tee it up in her first L:PGA Tour event at the CPKC Women’s Open.

(Oakville, Ont.) – Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community will host one of the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada’s Qualifying Tournaments in each of the next five seasons, it was announced Wednesday.

Located in Courtenay, British Columbia, the 7,025 yard Graham Cooke and Associates layout has hosted qualifying tournaments in each of the past two years, with the 2016 tournament taking place May 2-6.

A full schedule of Mackenzie Tour qualifying dates and sites as well as the format for qualifying will be announced in the coming weeks.

The 2019 Masters field is set. With Corey Conners' win at the Valero Texas Open, the field has moved from 86 to 87 to match last year's small field, with Patrick Reed eventually earning the Green Jacket.

The 87 golfers in each of the last two Masters represent the smallest field for the first major of the year since there were 86 golfers in the field when Tiger Woods won in 1997.

According to CBS Sports golf columnist Kyle Porter, "Conners is a nice late addition, but he's obviously not one of the favorites. This year's Masters favorite happens to also be the best golfer on the PGA TOUR this season and the man to whom a victory here would probably mean the most of any of the superstars in the game.

"Rory McIlroy is an 8-1 favorite to win his first Masters, and he's followed closely by Dustin Johnson at 10-1 and Justin Rose at 12-1. Combined, that trio has 10 top 10s in 11 Masters over the last four years."

With so many new things happening around you it’s hard to keep your focus.

Changing your shoes in the same locker room as Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas is as cool as it is exciting. The adrenaline begins pumping when you get to the driving range and the balls are new Titleist ProV1’s. And as you walk to your stall you pass Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Smith hitting balls and getting ready. That's just plain cool as well.

American Drew Weaver spoiled the party for the Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada’s 2015 opening event at Point Grey Golf & Country Club.

After Weaver finished regulation in a five-way tie at (-12) with fellow American Ross Beal and a trio of Canadians, Surrey’s Adam Svensson, Victoria’s Riley Wheeldon and Richmond Hill, ON’s Taylor Pendrith, Weaver won the PC Financial Open on the third playoff hole.

Positive movements for six of the Top-10 in Canada, while the remaining four maintained their standings, including top-ranked Jared du Toit, who begins the new collegiate season at No. 26 in the world.

Lawren Rowe gained 440 spots in the world rankings to move into the Top-20 in Canada after finishing in a tie for 23rd at the California State Fair Amateur. The University of Victoria Vike is coming off a solid summer in which he posted a runner-up finish at the Canadian University/College Championship and a tie for ninth at the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship. Fellow Canadian Patrick Murphy finished third at the same event, four strokes behind the winner.

February 28, 2023 – The stars of the LPGA Tour are headed back to Calgary as Golf Canada and Canadian Pacific (CP) have announced that the 2024 CP Women’s Open will be contested at the historic Earl Grey Golf Club from July 22-28, 2024.

The 2024 CP Women’s Open will mark the 7th time that the province of Alberta has hosted Canada’s National Women’s Open Championship and first since 2016. The 2024 event will be the 50th playing of Canada’s National Open Championship and the first time that Earl Grey will challenge the stars of the LPGA Tour.
