Like a boxer stepping up in weight class, Chris Crisologo is excited about testing himself at the next level. Over the next month, the 20-year-old Richmond resident has three big amateur tournaments on his schedule.

It starts this week at the prestigious Pacific Coast Amateur, which is being played at Seattle Golf Club. After that comes the Canadian Amateur at Royal Ottawa Golf Club and then the U.S. Amateur at Oakland Hills in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

A tie for second on Sunday by veteran Wes Heffernan of Calgary notwithstanding, it has been a tough year for Canadians on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada circuit.

Eight events into the 12-tournament season, Kimberley’s Jared du Toit is the top Canadian on the Mackenzie Tour’s money list. And he’s 22nd.

That’s right, there’s not a single Canadian inside the top 20. To this point anyway, it’s the worst year for Canadians since the PGA TOUR started running what used to be the Canadian Tour in 2013.

North Vancouver’s Eugene Wong will have lots on the line when he plays his third Web.com Tour event of the season next week in South Carolina. Wong expects to draw into the BMW Charity Pro-Am, scheduled for May 19-22. The Web.com Tour will conduct its second reshuffle of the season after that event and a solid showing by Wong would help him get into more tournaments the rest of the season.

Langley’s Jessica Wallace recorded her second top-10 finish Sunday in three Symetra Tour starts this year at the Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial tourney in Fort Myers, Fla. Wallace closed with a one-under 71 to finish the 72-hole event at two-under par and tied for eighth place.

The Chico’s tourney had a unique format that saw members of the LPGA’s Legends Tour play with Symetra Tour players on the weekend.

The host team from British Columbia emerged victorious in the 30th Anniversary edition of the North Pacific Junior Ladies Team Matches this past weekend. The competition, which was held at Pitt Meadows Golf Club this year, features teams from British Columbia, Washingotn, Oregon and Idaho.

The event is patterned after the Curtis Cup Matches for amateur women, which stimulates friendly rivalry for women golfers from the United States, Great Britain and Ireland.

(April 7, 2025) - A pair of Metro Vancouver youngsters turned in terrific performances at the national finals of the Drive, Chip & Putt competition at Augusta National Golf Club.

West Vancouver’s Jenny Guo narrowly missed winning her 12-13 girls age group championship. Guo, the reigning B.C. Juvenile Girls champion, finished second to Alexandra Phung of Forest Hills, N.J.

Vancouver’s Allen Kong tied for third in the boys 7-9 age group.

CHOUDRANT, La. – Christina Proteau, 32, of Port Alberni, B.C. advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, for the second straight year, which would have been hard to imagine after she shot a 15-over 87 in the first round of stroke play.

Proteau, a prosecutor for the province of British Columbia, rebounded with an even-par 72 in the second round to make match play and has posted three impressive wins.

(Golf Canada) - Week of November 9, 2015 -  After a five-week reign atop the rankings, Blair Hamilton has been unseated as the No. 1 amateur in Canada by Jared du Toit. The Kimberley, B.C., golfer picked up two spots while Hamilton slipped 30 places to relinquish top spot.

PRINCETON, NJ (Septemberr 29, 2024) - Winning never gets old. Victoria Liu can certainly attest to that. The Vancouver resident, who has just started her senior year at Princeton University, won again this past weekend. Liu captured her team’s home event, the Princeton Invitational, for what was her eighth collegiate win.

Liu shot rounds of 68, 72 and 71 to finish the tourney at two-under par and one shot ahead of teammate Catherine Rao. Liu and her Princeton teammates captured the team title by 30 shots over second-place Georgetown.

Brooke Henderson and Alena Sharp notwithstanding, the LPGA Tour is not exactly being over-run by Canadian content these days. But behind the scenes, one other Canadian is playing a significant role in another key area of the LPGA’s business.

Jody Jackson, a longtime resident of southern Vancouver Island and a former coach with British Columbia Golf, was named this past fall as the LPGA’s technical lead of instruction.

“It is really cool for them to have hired a Canuck as second in command on the teaching education side,” Jackson says with a touch of pride in her voice.

Jared du Toit’s performance at the RBC Canadian Open vaulted him 35 spots in the world rankings to a career-high No. 25 in the world. It was only his second career professional tournament and the University of Arizona senior finished two shots ahead of World No. 1 Jason Day and just two back of former teammate and former top-ranked amateur Jon Rahm. Du Toit captured the Gary Cowan Medal as Low Amateur as a result of his finish

Garrett Rank, a former top-ranked amateur in Canada, gained 13 places in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for 77th at the RBC Canadian Open.

Andrew Harrison moved back into the Top-20 with a 32-place gain in the world rankings. He is coming off a third-place finish at the Alberta Amateur.

Ricky Castillo of Yorba Linda, California, won the 18th annual AJGA Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona in a three-man sudden-death playoff.

Castillo defeated overnight leader, Jaewook Lee, of Langley, British Columbia, and Brock Goyen of Gilbert, Arizona, to claim his first AJGA victory since the 2015 BBCN Bank Junior All-Star.

Abbotsford, B.C.'s Nick Taylor has been named a finalist for PGA TOUR rookie of the year.

A graduate from the Web.com Tour a year ago, Taylor won his first PGA TOUR title in just his fourth start at the Sanderson Farms Championship. 

The former top-ranked amateur in the world went on to finish 101st in FedEx Cup standings and 93rd on the tour money list ($1,072,360), recording one top-10 finish and two top 25s with 17 made cuts.

Kyle German was out of the golf business and so, for a time, was Point Roberts. Now they are both back, reunited -- and it feels so good -- in the sleepy Washington state resort community south of Tsawwassen at Bald Eagle Golf Club.

German ran the original Point Roberts Golf Course for about seven years between 2005 and 2012. He left after things began to slide downhill when the previous owner stopped paying some bills. The course had its water supply cut off, fell into disrepair and was eventually closed. Now it’s back, rebranded as Bald Eagle Golf Club at Point Roberts, and better than ever.

It’s hard to argue that the Covid-19 pandemic has been a boon to the golf industry. Golf courses have never been busier and prime time weekend tee times have become something of a precious commodity.

Golf has undergone a renaissance of sorts as the pandemic brought new people to the game and those who already played logged even more rounds. 

It’s been a great time to be in the golf business pretty much everywhere but the border community of Point Roberts, Wash. The golf boom never materialized at Bald Eagle Golf Club, which was forced to close for more than two years during the pandemic due to border restrictions.

With his course stuck in the golfing equivalent of no-man’s land, Kyle German is finding it increasingly difficult to believe a season can be salvaged at Bald Eagle Golf Club.

Golf courses have re-opened in both British Columbia and Washington state and by all accounts business is brisk. But at Bald Eagle, located across the border in Point Roberts, there is no business at all. With the U.S.-Canadian border closed until at least June 21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bald Eagle remains shuttered.

For the five British Columbia girls playing for Team Canada at the World Junior Girls just outside of Ottawa, it hasn’t gone like they would have liked on the golf course. But that doesn’t mean they can’t have some fun as they experience a week in Canada’s capital.

The team is staying in the luxurious Brookstreet Hotel, which overlooks the course and is filled with business travellers. That’s because all around the course are the Canadian and worldwide head offices for massive tech companies like Wilan and Huawei.

This is the world of Sir Terry Matthews, who owns The Marshes and many of the buildings and land all around this area in Kanata, approximately 25 kilometres from downtown Ottawa.
