DELTA, BC (February 5, 2025) -  BC Golf and the Notah Begay III Canadian Junior Golf National Championship (NB3) will work together once again this year to provide our juniors with the chance to participate in the NB3 Canada/USA platform.

Players will compete locally with hopes to advance into the NB3 Canada Championship and/or to play in the United States in the state of Washington.

The top-finishers within each division from the NB3 Canada Championship and/or the Washington State Regional Final will move into NB3's U.S. Championship which takes place in Kinder, Louisiana annually. The U.S. Championships air on the Golf Channel for 2 hours!

British Columbia Golf has announced their team for the 2016 Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches to be played from Friday, August 12, 2016 to Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Riverside Golf & CC in Portland, OR.

British Columbia has sent a team every year as a chartered member, for the last 47 years, to this tournament. The competition includes teams from Southern California, Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Idaho, Hawaii and other states. 

The competition is well attended from college coaches from the North Pacific region and is an elite Championship, some of the best junior boys will be at the Eddie Hogan matches and its always an honor to be on this team.

The PNGA Player of the Year candidates are nominated by the various state and provincial golf associations that comprise the PNGA (Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington), and are selected by a vote of the PNGA Championship Committee.

Awards are given annually in eight different categories: Men’s, Women’s, Senior Men’s, Senior Women’s, Men’s Mid-Amateur, Women’s Mid-Amateur, Junior Boys’ and Junior Girls’.

Recently, British Columbia Golf became one of the latest golf associations to affiliate with the LPGA Amateur Golf Association, with the creation of 3 'Chapters' in B.C., the Vancouver Island chapter, Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley chapter and the Okanagan/Kamloops/Shuswap chapter.

The LPGA Amateurs focus on creating opportunities for women of all ages to become involved in and enjoy the game of golf. Here is the 'About Us' message as taken from their website:

British Columbia's North Pacific Junior Ladies Team will be on a quest not often realized at any level of sports competition when they tee off at the Home Course in Washington State this May 27th - 29th for the 34th edition of the North Pacific Junior Ladies Team Matches.

Although the annual NPJLTM competition has been cancelled the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they are back on track this year and Team BC just happens to have won the last four events played, from 2016 - 2019. Thus they take to the links in search of the rare 'Five-Peat'. 

The return to competition after a two-year break will bring with it some new faces to the BC Team, both on the player's side and the coaches as well.

Vancouver hometown tennis athlete Rebecca Marino and her Team Canada teammates, Leylah Fernandez, Bianca Andreescu and Gabriela Dabrowski will take on Belgium right here in Vancouver, at the Pacific Coliseum, April 14-15, in the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers, the World Cup of Women's Tennis.

The 2018 PNGA Cup is being held this year from May 2-4, 2018 at the Seattle Golf Clubin Shoreline, WA.

This Ryder-Cup style championship features some of the most notable amateur golfers in the Pacific Northwest region with 12-member teams representing the regional golf associations that makeup the Pacific Northwest Golf Association, which includes British Columbia Golf, Idaho Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association, and Washington State Golf Association.

As the women told story after story of their experiences of harassment, the men became increasingly concerned. Collectively, they resolved to make change.

Their work focuses on turning the care we have for each other into simple, creative, effective action. They want to build a world that’s free of harassment and filled with humanity. Every day, Right To Be trains hundreds of people to respond to, intervene in, and heal from harassment.

Kwanzaa is an annual celebration of African-American culture from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a communal feast called Karamu, usually on the sixth day.

It was created by activist Maulana Karenga, based on African harvest festival traditions from various parts of West and Southeast Africa. Kwanzaa was first celebrated in 1966. 

Families celebrating Kwanzaa decorate their households with objects of art, colorful African cloth such as kente, especially the wearing of kaftans by women, and fresh fruits that represent African idealism. It is customary to include children in Kwanzaa ceremonies and to give respect and gratitude to ancestors.

Libations are shared, generally with a common chalice, Kikombe cha Umoja, passed around to all celebrants. Non-African Americans also celebrate Kwanzaa."Joyous Kwanzaa" may be used as a greeting during the holiday.

A Kwanzaa ceremony may include drumming and musical selections, libations, a reading of the African Pledge and the Principles of Blackness, reflection on the Pan-African colors, a discussion of the African principle of the day or a chapter in African history, a candle-lighting ritual, artistic performance, and, finally, a feast of faith (Karamu Ya Imani).

The greeting for each day of Kwanzaa is Habari Gani?, which is Swahili for "How are you?"

Between May 25th and Tuesday, June 1st, coinciding with International Women's Golf Day, British Columbia Golf ran a 'Cloud Scramble' for teams put together across the province. Players created their own team, played at the location of their choice and submitted results. Prizes were done on a draw basis with the focus of the event to get out, participate and have fun.

It appears that's exactly what happened as participation was terrific with over 100 teams entering.

At this year's Annual General Meeting, British Columbia Golf welcomed 3 new directors onto their Board. One of those new directors is Shayain Gustavsp, who also happens to be an accredited LPGA Teaching Professional. 

In honor of Women's Golf Day, on Tuesday, June 2nd 2020, Coach Shayain hosted a Women's Golf Clinic in Richmond. She knew this clinic was going to be different than those she'd held in the past. Due to Covid-19 she would have to adhere to social distancing guidelines and yet still create an intimate environment for her students.

The 52nd Pacific Coast Amateur Championship tees of this week on Tuesday, July 24th at the famed Olympic Club in San Francisco. This is the 8th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship to be held at The Olympic Club.

All players will be vying for the individual Ed Updegraff Trophy, named after the longtime volunteer and standout amateur golfer who played on three Walker Cup teams (1963, 1965, 1969), won the inaugural Pacific Coast Amateur title at Seattle Golf Club in 1967 and was the 1999 Bob Jones Award recipient from the USGA.

Taking place concurrently with the first and second rounds will be the battle for the Morse Cup, a 36-hole stroke play team competition using predetermined rosters representing the 15 member associations of the Pacific Coast Golf Association. The defending champions of the Morse Cup are the contingent from the Southern California Golf Association.

SAN DIEGO, California (CJGA) — This week from July 14 - 17th, Canada’s top young aspiring golfers are competing in the prestigious IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships on nine golf courses around the San Diego area. This year, Canada will once again be well represented with 51 outstanding junior golfers.

For only the second time, the World Deaf Golf Championships will be played in Ireland after the IDGU won the bidding process to host the championships in July 2014 at the Grand Traverse Resort, Michigan, USA.

The Championships will be held July 21st-28th,  2018at the Carton House Golf Club. The Men’s Individual/Team Championships will be playing on the Montgomerie Course while the Ladies’ & Senior’s Individual/Team Championships will be playing on the O’Meara Golf Course.

Team Canada will compete in the Men’s event, Senior Men’s event and Ladies’ event.

Team Canada’s Women’s Development Squad, including 3 players from BC, is geared up to showcase their talent at The Grange Golf Club for the time-honoured Astor Trophy. 

Ann Carroll, Canada’s Development Squad coach, leads Grace St. Germain (Ottawa), Naomi Ko (Victoria, B.C.), Jaclyn Lee (Calgary), Alisha Lau (Richmond, B.C.) and Michelle Kim (Surrey, B.C.) into overseas action for one of their first events as a new team.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 13, 2018) – Abigail Rigsby had been close to winning her first collegiate tournament so many times and the Oklahoma Christian golfer finally busted down the door to victory on Tuesday.

Rigsby pulled away from the field in her typical steady fashion, turning a one-shot lead to start the day into a four-shot runaway in the Midwestern State Invitational at Wichita Falls Country Club. Her final-round 4-over-par 76 gave the sophomore from Courtenay, British Columbia, a two-day total of 149 over the 5,843-yard course.

DURAN, Fla. -- Another historic day took place on Tuesday, Mar. 3, with Coquitlam, B.C.'s A.J. Ewart leading the  Barry University Buccaneers to their school-record fifth straight win after taking home the victory at the Panther Invitational by a six-stroke margin.

Barry finished strong, shaving nine strokes off their second round 296 with a one-under par 287 in the final round. Three out of the five Buccaneer starters recorded their best round of the tournament on Tuesday to go along with a 70 from Ewart and a 72 from Tyler Bakich.

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Golf Coaches of Association of America announced the GCAA All-Freshman Team on Tuesday, Apr. 28, with the Barry Buccaneer men's golf team's AJ Ewart of Coquitlam, British Columbia earning one of the five spots on the prestigious team.

PINEHURST, North Carolina — The 2019 U.S. Kids Golf World Championships wrapped up with a number of young Canadians placing in the top tier of the elite junior competition operated by U.S. Kids Golf.

The Top Canadian performances of the competition were by Aurora, Ontario’s Eddie Gu (Boys 9) and Richmond, BC’s Alex Zhang (Boys 10) who both took the top spot in their respective divisions at the conclusion of the 54-hole competition.

Not only is BC's Ashley Zibrik having a positive impact on the game of golf here at home for golf as a whole and, in many respects, for the advancement of women in the game in particular, her contributions are being duly noted south of the border. 

Recently Zibrik, Shaughnessy Golf Club's Head Professional, was interviewed by Club Trends magazine, a publication put out by the National Club Association based in Washington, DC. She was a major component of an issue put out by Club Trends focussing on the impact women are having at private clubs these days.

The issue, Female Factor: Women's Evolving Influence In Private Clubs,was put out for Fall 2019 and among the articles was a feature Q & A with the former Class 'A' Professional of The Year and two-time PGA of BC Women's Champion, Ashley Zibrik.
