VICTORIA - Lawren Rowe and the men's golf team took home their third championship of the young season on Tuesday, with Rowe winning the individual title to help his team secure the trophy.

The women's team moved up from eighth to sixth between Day 1 and Day 2, as Laura Ferreira and Hannah Diamond both put up rounds of 76 on the final day.

Roy Kang of North Vancouver and the Seymour Golf Club will meet Joshua Gliege of Eagle, ID will meet in Friday morning’s final match at the 61st Pacific Northwest Junior Boys’ Amateur, which is being held at Wildhorse Resort in Pendleton, OR.

The championship is being conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA).

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews will vote in September on whether to have women as members for the first time in its 260-year history.

A statement from the club Wednesday said all committees are “strongly in favour of the rule change and are asking members to support it.”

The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews has about 2,400 members from around the world and dates to 1754. The clubhouse is among the most famous buildings in golf, overlooking the Old Course at St. Andrews.

Pressure has been building in recent years on the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews to change its men-only policy, especially after Augusta National Golf Club announced in August 2012 that it was inviting two women to join – former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore.

The British Open last year was held at Muirfield, one of three links courses on the Open rotation that does not allow female members.

“This is welcome news from the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, and I urge its members to follow their committees’ recommendations and vote `yes’ for women members,” British sports minister Helen Grant said in a statement. “It would mark a step in the right direction for the sport and I would hope encourage the remaining golf clubs that still have anachronistic single-sex member policies to follow suit.”

The next Open at a men-only club is in 2016 at Royal Troon.

The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews devolved responsibility for running the Open Championship and administering the Rules of Golf to a separate entity in 2004 known as The R&A.

The R&A governs golf everywhere in the world except for the United States and Mexico. It also organizes the British Open and other championships.

Federal Way, Wash. – Royal Colwood Golf Club in Victoria, B.C. will be the host site of the 2021 Pacific Coast Amateur Championship. The venerable club had been set to host the 2020 championship this July, but when this year’s event was canceled due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, the club’s board of directors, management, professional staff and committee readily agreed to carry over as the host venue for next year.

The 54th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship, with the host association being British Columbia Golf, will be held July 19-23, 2021. This will be the second time Royal Colwood will have hosted the championship, with it previously being held there in 2008.

The Southern California Golf Association, responsible for the SCGA Rules and Fitness tips seen here over the last few year, have now launched a new web series entitled “Celebrities in Golf Carts.”

In this golf and lifestyle series targeting sports and entertainment enthusiasts of all ages, host Mark Willard plays golf with popular stars and athletes, mixing in casual conversation before wrapping up with a brief competition and a beer.

Women’s Golf Day is an event for females of all ages and skill levels to participate in golf and help us grow the game. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the original day for this International Event was postponed from June 2nd to September 1st.

INDIANAPOLIS – For the fourth time in five years the Simon Fraser University men's golf team has been selected to compete in the NCAA Super Regional.

Great Northwest Athletic Conference champion Simon Fraser will be the No. 6 seed from the West Region at the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Golf West/South Central Regional, which will be held May 7-9 in Amarillo, Texas. The Clan also participated in the Super Regional in 2016, 2015 and 2014.

The tournament will be held at the Tascosa Golf Club and will feature 20 teams and eight individuals. A total of 10 teams and four individuals comprise each region. Chico State represents the West Region as the No. 1 seed while UC Colorado Springs is the top seed in the South Central Region.

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Simon Fraser University women’s golf team won the rain-shortened Saint Martin’s University that concluded Saturday at the Olympia Golf & Country Club. It was the team’s first tournament of the season.

Simon Fraser claimed the title with a team-score 479 after weather conditions on the final day of the women's golf tournament forced the round be cut to nine holes on Saturday.

Bellingham, WA - Talk about a great start, the SFU Clan women's golf team are now two-for-two to start the 2016-17 campaign, as they shot a combined 24-over-par 608 (303, 305) to take first place at the Western Washington Invitational on Tuesday, still fresh off last weekend's win at Saint Martin's.

There was a time not that long ago when Simon Fraser University golf coach Matthew Steinbach would have been delighted to have his men’s team inside the top 25 of the NCAA Division II pre-season rankings.

But when this season’s rankings were recently released with the SFU men tied for 23rd, Steinbach couldn’t help feeling like his team wasn’t getting the respect it deserved.

“There’s a belief within the program that we belong in the top 10 on the national stage,” Steinbach said in an interview. “I was disappointed with that (ranking) and we have a little chip on our shoulder because of it. Sometimes I think we get neglected as the only Canadian school in the NCAA.”

BURNABY, BC --- On Wednesday morning, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced their 2019- 2020 Men's Golf All-GNAC team selections, which included three SFU student-athletes, as well as Head Coach Matthew Steinbach.

Leading the way for SFU among All-GNAC selections was senior Scott Kerr. Kerr tied with Concordia senior Jaxson Daskalos with a 72.0 stroke average over 15 rounds, good enough for second lowest in the conference, finishing with six rounds of par or below and placing in the top-10 three times out of five events to earn his second first-team nod.

ALAMEDA, CA --- From March 2nd to 3rd, the Simon Fraser Women's Golf Team was in California for the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by California State University - East Bay, at Corica Park's South Course.

After a difficult start on day one, Simon Fraser shot the lights out on day two of the tournament, positing a team record 1-under 287 team score. The day was led by Jaya Rampuri's stellar 1-under 71, and backed up by three even par rounds from Emily Leung, Claire Lovan and Frida Ehnebom.

BURNABY, B.C. (September 05, 2024) - It was the first meeting of a new season for members of the men’s and women’s golf teams at Simon Fraser University and the message their coach delivered to them left the players in a state of shock.

Instead of the pre-season pep talk many expected, head coach Matthew Steinbach informed the players that after eight successful years leading the SFU golf program, he was stepping down.

The players were stunned by the news, which was delivered just a couple of days before classes for the new academic year started at the Burnaby campus.

(May 16, 2016) NORMAN, Okla. – Simon Fraser University sophomore Chris Crisologo was today named to the Division II PING All-Region West team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Crisologo was one of 112 players across eight regions - East, Atlantic, Southeast, South, Midwest, South Central, Central and West – who earned all-region honors for 2016.
