Robert Trent Jones-Designed Course Plays Host To 84 Top-Ranked International Amateur Golfers; Championship Consists Of 72-Holes Of Stroke Play Over Four Days Of Competition; Six Oregonians Slated To Compete On Home Soil

PACIFIC COAST GOLF ASSOCIATION (Eugene, OR)- The 49th installment of the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship, hosted by the Oregon Golf Association, will take place at the historic Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon from July 28th-31st, 2015.

Cle Elum, Wash. - Princess Superal of Sun City, Fla. defeated Naomi Ko of Victoria, B.C., 6 and 5, in the final match to win the 115th Pacific Northwest Women's Amateur; while Amanda Jacobs of Portland, Ore. defeated Shawn Farmer of Renton, Wash., 3 and 2, in the final match to win the 15th Pacific Northwest Women's Mid-Amateur.

Both matches were held on the Prospector Course at Suncadia in Cle Elum, Wash., and were conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA).

As part of the celebration that is International Women's Golf Day on June 6th, the Richmond Country Club and Victoria Golf Club are both hosting events and inviting all interested women to take part in the day's festivities. 

The focus of Women's Golf Day is essentially socializing, networking and distribution of information regarding lessons, league play, ways to get involved in golf.

Anyone wishing to participate should contact either of these two facilities before Tuesday June 6th in order to register and find out further information.

Vancouver, B.C.'s Stuart Macdonald is looking to earn Mackenzie Tour status this week a Q-School. The member of Golf Canada's National Amateur Team plays out of Point Grey Golf and Country Club, host of the Freedom 55 Financial Championship, and recently finished his collegiate career at Purdue University.

MacDonald plans on competing as an amateur into this summer, but has eyes on his next steps and professional future this week in California.

The USGA and The R&A have issued the Distance Insights Report, which provides comprehensive research and analysis on the contributors to, and long-term impacts of, hitting distance in golf.

After extensive stakeholder research, the report features more than 100 years of data, informed by a library of 56 supporting documents. It is accompanied by a 15-page conclusions paper from the governing bodies that summarizes their perspectives on the long-term implications for the sport.

(St. Andrews, Scotland) – New research figures revealed by The R&A and Sports Marketing Surveys (SMS) show golf has enjoyed a significant increase in popularity worldwide since 2016 with over five-and-a-half million additional golfers taking up the sport.

The number of total golfers globally has increased from 61 million to 66.6 million in a five-year growth period, surpassing the previous high mark of 61.6 million set in 2012.

The measure includes club members and non-member independent golfers playing nine or 18 holes and users of driving ranges in markets where course availability is limited.

The R&A’s drive to increase the number of women and girls participating in golf and to encourage more opportunities for women to work within the sport has been reflected in early success for the new Women in Golf Charter.

Launched last May in London, the Charter set out to inspire an industry-wide commitment to developing a more inclusive culture within golf globally. It is designed to encourage actions that enable more women and girls to flourish and maximise their potential within the golf industry at all levels.

RICHMOND, BC – Senior Jaya Rampuri captured medalist honours for her first collegiate tournament win and Simon Fraser University won the inaugural True North Classic, the first-ever NCAA golf tournament held in Canada at the Richmond Country Club.

Rampuri fired a second round par 72, on the 5,978 yard layout to win by three strokes over first-round leader Cammie Decker of Concordia, who was the only player under par at -1 after one round. Rampuri shot two rounds of 72 to win the 36-hole tournament with a 144 after Decker slipped to a final round 4-over-par 76 during the wet and windy conditions on day two. Decker finished at 147.

What a Sunday for the books! Our very own Canadian, Nick Taylor, waves the red and white high and proud, clinching the 2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open in a heart-stopping playoff against Charley Hoffman. Taylor's putter was nothing short of magical, a testament to perseverance and precision under pressure.

Parallel to our golfing triumph, the red and white Kansas City Chiefs staged a comeback reminiscent of a Hollywood script in the Super Bowl, turning a game of "butterfingers" into a victory dance in overtime against the 49ers. It's a red and white double-header that'll be etched in the annals of sports history.

They have all contributed to the growth of the game of golf in this country. However, their contributions to golf pale in comparison to their contributions to the fabric of our nation.

November 11th is Remembrance Day. A day we remember and pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces. What better day to remember Canadian golfers of the past who helped our nation during its greatest times of need.

It was a beautiful day for golf on the Clearview Golf Course in East Canton, Ohio, but for these women, being here is about much more than sinking putts.

"You look at that little white ball, it's very little!" said one woman. "And you don't think of anything else when you're trying to hit that ball."

The women are part of Clearview Hope, the first golf program for female military veterans in America."It's freedom," said one golfer. "You can look at your other comrades, your other sister, and you know what she's saying without even saying a word."

Ben Doyle was a charter member of Golf Digest’s 50 Best Teachers list and also made Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Instructors list.

While golf aficionados shed a tear upon learning of his death, at age 82, on Dec. 15, 2014 in San Francisco, those same golf fans celebrated his unorthodox teaching methods, which included Doyle being the first teacher of Homer Kelley’s revolutionary golf instruction book, ‘The Golfing Machine’.

But what these golf fans may not know is that Ben Doyle has deep Lower Mainland roots, as he went to high school in New Westminster with his twin brother Bernie and first picked up the sport at the Vancouver Golf Club, where his mom worked.

NORMAN, Okla. – Simon Fraser University golfer Chris Crisologo was today named to the NCAA Division II PING All-Region West team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Crisilogo won four individual titles this season and was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and All-Conference First Team for the second consecutive year.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State men’s golf head coach Jon Reehoorn has announced that three student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the program for the 2016-17 season.

The class includes Kyosuke Hara from Honolulu, Hawai’i, Shawn Lu, from Honolulu, Hawai’i and Diego San Pedro from Richmond, British Columbia.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (International Golf Federation) — It took 112 years for golf to find a new Olympic champion, but it was well worth the wait. Great Britain’s Justin Rose followed in the footsteps of the long-departed George Lyon of Canada when he climbed onto the podium to collect the Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro.

On a sun-drenched final day, in front of a sell-out crowd of 12,000 at Reserva de Marapendi Golf Course, Rose added the Olympic crown to his 2013 US Open title after a prolonged and exciting battle down the stretch with Sweden’s Henrik Stenson.

The first question came from nine-year-old Constanza Ordaz, who asked Rose Zhang something all frustrated golfers would like to know. “What does she do when she misses something, when she misses a shot,” the youngster asked Zhang. “What do you do?”

Zhang and everyone who had gathered at the Musqueam Golf and Learning Centre chuckled at Constanza’s question. “I wish there was a thing so you couldn’t miss on the golf course,” Zhang said. “But it’s frustrating. Golf is hard.”

Before she set foot for the first time on Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club, the site of this week’s CPKC Women’s Open, Zhang dropped by the Musqueam Golf Centre on Tuesday morning for a clinic organized by Golf Canada and the British Columbia chapter of the First Tee.
