British Columbia Golf is proud to announce the election of Patrick Kelly as the association's newest President. Kelly assumes the role from now immediate Past President David Atkinson, who has held the position since 2013.

Patrick, who operates a consulting business, is a member of the Leq:amel First Nation (Sto:lo Nation.) and was elected their Treaty Representative for treaty negotiations, a role he held from 1998 to 2001. He has had a number of high level positions including a five-year term as Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of BC.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Simon Fraser University sophomore Chris Crisologo of Richmond was recognized for his dominant individual season by being named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Joining Crisologo on the First Team was junior Kevin Vigna (Coquitlam) while sophomore Marcus Brown (Surrey) and senior Bret Thompson (Winnipeg) were Second Team selections.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Simon Fraser University’s Emily Leung of Richmond was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference by conference coaches. Joining Leung on the First Team was sophomore Michelle Waters (Qualicum Beach) while freshman Belinda Lin (Surrey) was a Second Team selection.

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Simon Fraser men’s golf team has been selected to the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf South Central/West Super Regional Championship for the third straight season. The Clan will be joined at the tournament with Great Northwest Athletic Conference champion Western Washington.

Simon Fraser finished the season ranked No. 3 in the West Region while Western Washington ranked No. 9. The 10 West Region teams selected will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., and will be joined by 10 teams from the South Central Region to play three rounds at the Western New Mexico State University Golf Course May 2-4.

The clubhouse is gone, but 18 holes that have helped produce so many wonderful players over the years remain at Ledgeview Golf Club. The members of the Abbotsford course are still trying to come to grips with the April 19 fire that completely destroyed the top floor of their clubhouse. They know the club faces some hard work over the next number of months, but are hopeful that something positive will emerge from this.

Austin James gained 20 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for second at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational. It was the No. 3 ranked amateur in Canada’s seventh straight Top-10 result and his third consecutive Top-5 showing. His 10-under 206 total was the third lowest in school history.

Alistair Docherty picked up 19 places in the world rankings after finishing runner-up at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, just three strokes behind the winner. The result moved the senior at Chico State up to No. 5 in the Canadian rankings. The New Brunswick native, currently the top-ranked Division II golfer, was also one of 10 collegiate golfers selected to represent the U.S. in the 2016 Palmer Cup – the collegiate version of the Ryder Cup.

Accomplished Junior Golfer Joins Pioneers’ Talent-Laden Freshman Class

DENVER – University of Denver men’s golf coach Erik Billinger announced today Roy Kang (North Vancouver, B.C.) has signed a national letter of intent to join the program for the 2016-17 academic year. Kang joins a talent-laden freshman class for DU that includes Isaac Petersilie (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Troy Dangler (Grand Junction, Colo.) and Eric Hagen (Aberdeen, Wash.).

“Roy is a very talented player and we’re thrilled that he’ll be joining our program for the upcoming season,” says Billinger.

- Golfers Invited to Burnaby Mountain Golf Festival -

Burnaby, B.C. (April 21, 2016) - The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) Linkster Tour will be heading to Burnaby Mountain Golf Course in Burnaby, B.C., this Saturday. Junior golfers from all over the lower mainland will compete in 8 separate age divisions ranging from ages 5 to 14.

Accompanying the tournament will be the Burnaby Mountain Golf Festival. The festival will begin at 10:00 a.m. and run until 1:00 p.m. Attendees can take advantage of free golf clinics taught by expert PGA of Canada professionals. Kids will also have a chance to showcase their talents at the Little Linkster skills competition with prizes to be won. Golfers will be able to take advantage of special discounts on spring clothing and equipment.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior Mackenzie Field from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference champion Simon Fraser University women’s golf team is the top student athlete selected to the 2015-16 Conference All-Academic Team. She was named to the team for the second straight year.

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Sophomore Michelle Waters of Qualicum Beach birdied the first playoff hole Tuesday to win medalist honours and lead Simon Fraser to the team championship at the 2016 GNAC Women’s Golf Championships at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.

Waters, who shot Monday’s low round of 3-over-par 74, turned in a 77 on the second round to finish the day at 9-over-par 151. She held off a valiant comeback attempt by Saint Martin’s Jennifer Liedes for her first tournament victory.

-Six Juniors Earn Exemptions into the Nike Golf Junior Championships-

Pitt Meadows, B.C (April 18, 2016) -The first of eight Nike Golf Junior Series tournaments commenced this past weekend at the Swaneset Bay Resort and Country Club in Pitt Meadows, B.C.

During the two-day event, junior golfers from the lower mainland as well as Alberta competed for invitations to the coveted Nike Golf Junior Championship to be held in Ontario later this summer. The highlight of the tournament goes to Sarah Lawrence, who claimed her first career CJGA win with a two-day total of eight under par.

"The girls stole the show at Swaneset this past weekend" said CJGA BC Tournament Director, Brad Ewart. "Sarah Lawrence, Victoria Liu and Mai Hiyashi all shot their best tournament scores ever. For the rest of the girls, many shot their best competitive scores as well."

Langley’s Jessica Wallace recorded her second top-10 finish Sunday in three Symetra Tour starts this year at the Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial tourney in Fort Myers, Fla. Wallace closed with a one-under 71 to finish the 72-hole event at two-under par and tied for eighth place.

The Chico’s tourney had a unique format that saw members of the LPGA’s Legends Tour play with Symetra Tour players on the weekend.

Three Provincial Sport Associations Have Collaborated To Reach Elementary Students In The Province’s More Remote Communities

“Left on what?” prompted Maureen Blaseckie to a gymnasium full of grade threes at Duncan, B.C.’s Alex Aitken Elementary School earlier this spring.

“Lemon!” came the resounding response from the excited group of eight year olds. “And right on what?” asked Blaseckie, holding up an oversized golf club to show its colour-coded grip to the class.“Raspberry!” they replied. “The grip is the hardest part of the game,” Blaseckie explained. “But you guys are experts now, so the rest is easy.”

Blaseckie, an avid curler out of the Archie Browning rink in Esquimalt, was in Duncan for three days at the end of March to lead the local SOAR delivery.

Recently, Edith Albrecht celebrated her 90th birthday. She started her golfing career at age 25, hitting balls in her brother-in-law’s blackberry field. She was hooked by the game and started participating in tournaments in Zone 6, all over Vancouver Island and BC.

The CN Future Links Mobile Golf Clinics are FREE and they're coming to Eaglequest Golf Centres in Coquitlam and Coyote Creek in Surrey.

The XXVIII Campeonato Internacional De Afficionados sees Brent Wilson and Craig Doell representing British Columbia at the Lima Golf Club in Lima, Peru. In this tournament, the “Manuel Prado Cup” is played by two-player teams with aggregate scores, and the “Carlos Raffo Cup” is awarded to the best individual score.  

The 2016 PNGA Cup is being held this year from May 4-6 at the Richmond Country Club in Richmond, British Columbia.

This Ryder-Cup style championship features some of the most notable amateur golfers in the Pacific Northwest region with 12-member teams representing the regional golf associations that makeup the Pacific Northwest Golf Association, which includes British Columbia Golf, Idaho Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association, and Washington State Golf Association.

Teams play four-ball, foursome and singles matches to select a champion.

British Columbia Golf is a leader and steward of golf, building participation and supporting the sport by providing resources, education and competition for British Columbians.
