SFU Clan’s Chris Crisologo Named GNAC Player Of The Year

PORTLAND, Ore. – Simon Fraser University sophomore Chris Crisologo of Richmond was recognized for his dominant individual season by being named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Joining Crisologo on the First Team was junior Kevin Vigna (Coquitlam) while sophomore Marcus Brown (Surrey) and senior Bret Thompson (Winnipeg) were Second Team selections.

Crisologo was selected by the conference coaches as Player of the Year after receiving the Freshman of the Year award in 2015. The sophomore paced all GNAC golfers with an average round score of 71.0 and tied for third place at the GNAC Championships at 5-under-par 208.

Crisologo was the medalist at two tournaments and finished in the top-five in five of eight events. He will continue his season, along with Simon Fraser's team, at the NCAA Division II South Central/West Super Regionals, May 2-4 in Las Cruces, N.M.

Kevin Vigna, the 2014-15 Player of the Year, was selected a first team member for the third consecutive season. He is fourth in the conference in scoring average (73.6).

Brown was selected All-Conference for the first time while Thompson made the GNAC All-Conference team for the fourth straight year. He was chosen to the first team last year after being selected to the second team as a freshman and sophomore.

The Simon Fraser will be attending the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf South Central/West Super Regional Championship for the third straight season. Simon Fraser finished the season ranked No. 3 in the West Region. The 10 West Region teams selected will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., and will be joined by 10 teams from the South Central Region to play three rounds at the Western New Mexico State University Golf Course May 2-4.

The top-five teams and top-two golfers from each regional are guaranteed to advance to the NCAA National Championships May 17-21 at Green Valley Ranch in Denver, Colo.

The Clan tied for third place at regionals in 2015 and tied for fifth at the national championships.
