Lawren Rowe made the biggest gain among the Top-10, picking up 40 places in the world rankings after posting a wire-to-wire victory at the CSUSM Fall Classic. Rowe opened with a 67 for the low round of the day and followed it up with back-to-back rounds of par to win by eight strokes. It was his second collegiate victory of the season and the third team title for the Vikes. The No. 4 ranked amateur in Canada has also recorded Top-10 results in his other two events this fall.

Four players from British Columbia will be among the 14 Canadians included in the approximately 375 athletes competing for 2017 playing status at the second stage of Web.com Tour Qualifying School, hosted at five different sites across the United States from Nov. 1–11.

Players from BC include Seann Harlingten and David Rose, both of West Vancouver, Ryan Williams from Vancouver and Burnaby's Devin Carrey.

Each qualifying site will host 72-hole stroke-play events with 78-player fields and no cuts. The number of players advancing from each site will be determined on a pro-rated basis (announced during play).

Abbotsford's Adam Hadwin picked up eight places in the world rankings after finishing tied for 21st at the PGA’s CIMB Classic. The result was worth 2.93 world ranking points, his best points-paying finish since a Top-10 result almost three months ago at John Deere Classic.

VICTORIA - Lawren Rowe and the men's golf team took home their third championship of the young season on Tuesday, with Rowe winning the individual title to help his team secure the trophy.

The women's team moved up from eighth to sixth between Day 1 and Day 2, as Laura Ferreira and Hannah Diamond both put up rounds of 76 on the final day.

VENICE, Fla. – Four Canadians were among 84 competitors that advanced to Stage III of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament on Sunday at the Plantation Golf & Country Club.

Megan Osland of Kelowna, B.C., led all 10 Canadians in the field, finishing at 5-over par (72-72-73-76) to grab a share of 30th. Team Canada graduate and Calgary product Jennifer Ha was the next Canadian in line, closing at 7-over par (69-71-79-76) to end in a tie for 47th.

On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, Joyce Millicent Woodruff (Bader) passed away peacefully in Kamloops, BC at the age of 82. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Woody, her daughters, Marilee (Greg), Marcia (Alan) and her grandsons, Jordan, Daren (Lexi) and Corey (Brooke), brother, Gerry, niece, Larinda and her children, Heather (Joel), Jeffery (Natalie), Haley (Kyle) and Hannah, as well as numerous family and friends.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Dick and Charlotte and her sister-in-law Phyllis. Joyce was born on October 6, 1934, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Woody and Joyce were married in 1956 and settled in Victoria where Woody was in the Navy. They raised two daughters and then retired to Vernon and Kamloops to be closer to their grandchildren.

Joyce was an avid sports fan and golfer, active in the BCLGA in her retirement. She was a wonderful piano player and singer and enjoyed taking part in the choir. She loved animals of all kinds but her main loves in life were her three grandchildren. She didn't miss a single sports game that they played.

A Celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Gathering Place at Overlander Extended Care, 953 Southill Street, Kamloops, BC, with Celebrant Glen Peter officiating.

Should friends desire, donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the British Columbia Lung Association in memory of Joyce would be greatly appreciated.

OAKVILLE, Ont. – Golf Canada is pleased to announce the athletes who have been chosen to represent Team Canada as part of the 2017 National Amateur Squad and Development Squad programs.

In all, eight athletes comprise Team Canada’s National Amateur Squad including four players on the men’s team and four on the women’s, with three of those players coming from British Columbia.

There are also 8 players who comprise the National Development Squad and anther three from BC have been named to that group.

VENICE, Fla. – 10 Canadians are among 210 competitors vying to punch their tickets to the third and final stage of LPGA Qualifying School from Oct. 20-23 at the Plantation Golf & Country Club.

Playing on the Bobcat and Panther courses, all athletes will compete in the 72-hole stroke-play event (with no cut) to earn one of the Top 80 slots (plus ties) to advance to the third stage at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., from Dec. 1-4.

The Host UVic Vikes Defended Their Team Title At The Vikes Golf Shootout Beating Out A Powerful UBC T'Birds Squad - Image Credit Liane Funk/UVic Athletics

VICTORIA – Two days of rain couldn't put a damper on a strong tournament for the men's golf team, as the UVic Vikes picked up their second straight victory at the Vikes Golf Shootout October 18th. The individual champion was UBC's Evan Holmes, whose T-Birds came in 2nd to their rivals from Vancouver Island.

Holmes opened the event with a 5-under 66 before finishing with a 3-under 68. His final result of 8-under 134 was six shots better than Craig Bokenfor from the University of Alberta while the Vikes' Andrew Funk, who entered as the two-time defending champion at the tournament, shot two solid rounds to finish tied for third with teammates Bruce Tomie and Lawren Rowe.

Funk, Tomie and Rowe all finished with one-under-par 141's.

Seaside, CA – Chris Crisologo added a little more hardware to his personal trophy case on Tuesday, as the junior wrapped up a solo victory at the Otter Invitational with a terrific second day. As a whole, the SFU Clan men's golf team took fifth in the three-round event, which was hosted by the Cal State Monterey Otters at Bayonet Golf Course.

Bellingham, WA - Talk about a great start, the SFU Clan women's golf team are now two-for-two to start the 2016-17 campaign, as they shot a combined 24-over-par 608 (303, 305) to take first place at the Western Washington Invitational on Tuesday, still fresh off last weekend's win at Saint Martin's.

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Simon Fraser University women’s golf team won the rain-shortened Saint Martin’s University that concluded Saturday at the Olympia Golf & Country Club. It was the team’s first tournament of the season.

Simon Fraser claimed the title with a team-score 479 after weather conditions on the final day of the women's golf tournament forced the round be cut to nine holes on Saturday.

AUGUSTINE, Fla., USA) - World Golf Foundation (WGF) – the non-profit organization developing and supporting initiatives that positively impact lives through the game of golf and its traditional values – announces the launch of the Golf & Health Project, academically researching and highlighting how the game can benefit peoples’ lives.

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, led by Dr. Andrew Murray and under the supervision of leading international academics, Professor Nanette Mutrie and Professor Liz Grant, have conducted the largest, most comprehensive study of golf and health, with the results shown in a Scoping Review published in the world’s leading sports medicine and science journal, The British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Lawren Rowe continued his upward movement inside the Top-10, picking up another 158 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for sixth at the Western Washington Invitational. The result enabled the third year golfer at the University of Victoria move up to the No. 5 ranking in Canada. Over the course of the last two weeks, Rowe has gained 699 spots in the world rankings.

BELLINGHAM, WA – On the final day of the Western Washington Men's Golf Invitational, SFU's Chris Crisologo shot a one-over 73, holding off a charging Andrew Harrison, to take his first win of the season.

VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds prevailed as the team champion for the third time in the last four years at the 45th Annual Western Washington University Men's Golf Invitational played at Bellingham Golf & Country Club, Sept. 26-27th.

The T-Birds finished with a team score of 6-under-par 858, adding the team title at the WWU Invite to winning years in 2007, 2013 and 2014. UBC posted rounds of 1-under 287 and 5-under 282 before finishing up with a 1-over 289,

Chico State was the team runner-up at 4-under (860), followed by Concordia (Ore.) (E, 864), California State Monterey Bay (+5, 869) and the University of Victoria (+5, 869).

Walla Walla, Wash. - Brad Karns of Vancouver, Wash. shot 1-under par in the final round to win the 30th Washington State Senior Men's Amateur Championship; while Gudmund Lindbjerg of Port Moody, B.C. went wire-to-wire in capturing the 9th Washington State Super Senior Men's Amateur. This is the second title for Lindbjerg, having also won this championship in 2014.

More than 200 golfers from across the United States and Canada will converge on Port St. Lucie, FL for the 2016 Special Olympics North America Golf Championship, hosted at the prestigoius and beautiful PGA Golf Club, using the Ryder and Wannamaker Courses.

One of those golfers is West Kelowna, BC's Kyle Grummett who has a Bronze medal from the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles along with the Gold medal he picked up in the 2014 Special Olympic Summer Games held in Vancouver.

Grummett was also nominated by British Columbia Golf for a 2016 Sport BC Athlete of the Year award for an athlete with a disability.

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The sun beamed through at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club to crown the Philippines as World Junior Girls team champions. Yuka Saso battled through a gusty day to claim individual medallist honours at the third edition of the annual event.
