Maui Jim Canada Elevating BC Women's Golf In 2018

British Columbia Golf along with the Vancouver Golf Tour welcomes MAUI JIM CANADA as a Major Partner in developing BC Women’s Golf. Through the partnership British Columbia Golf has with the VGT, Maui Jim Canada has elevated their sponsorship to include a Presenting Sponsorship Role in all 7 of British Columbia Golf’s Women’s Championships in 2018.

The BC Golf Women's Championship events begin June 18th with the Women's Senior, Super-Senior and Net-Stableford Championship and conclude with the Juvenile Girls Championship August 23rd. At the same time the VGT will launch the MAUI JIM WOMEN’S SERIES.

The 8th annual First Tee Million Dollar Pro-Am Challenge is all about raising funds to ensure vulnerable kids and youth can have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the game of golf.

The First Tee of the YMCA of Greater Vancouver enables kids ages 6-17 to learn how to set goals and build character while learning fundamental golf skills. Through the game of golf, kids also learn essential life skills and positive values have a whole lot of fun. Let’s face it—kids learn best when they’re having fun!

This exciting shotgun tournament will offer amateur players an intimate experience to compete in an 18 hole team scramble with one of Canada’s premier golf professionals. Held at the exclusive Richmond Country Club, eight lucky participants will be randomly drawn and will have an opportunity to sink a hole-in-one shot to win $1,000,000.

The USGA nd The R&A have unveiled the new Rules of Golf, to be implemented on 1 January 2019. 

The USGA and The R&A finalized golf’s new Rules this month after an extensive review that included a request for feedback from the global golf community on the proposed changes. Golfers can now access the official 2019 Rules of Golf by visiting www.RandA.org or www.usga.org/rules.

The process to modernize the Rules began in 2012 and was initiated to ensure that the Rules are easier to understand and apply for all golfers and to make the game more attractive and accessible for newcomers.

British Columbia Golf is proud to represent over 300 member golf clubs throughout our province. There's an old saying that "Membership has its privileges" and while that's true, being a member of a golf facility provides so much more than merely privileges.

The benefits to all involved are numerous and often it's merely a matter of knowing what is available in order to make a solid choice and begin enjoying those benefits right away.

(5 March 2018, St Andrews, Scotland and Liberty Corner, NJ, USA) - The R&A and the USGA have completed the annual review of driving distance in golf, producing a research report that documents and evaluates important findings from the 2017 season.

Introduced in 2015, the annual report examines driving distance data from seven of the major worldwide professional golf tours, based on nearly 300,000 drives per year. The data from studies of male and female amateur golfers is also included.

ETOBICOKE, Ont. – The Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and The Toro Company are pleased to announce Mr. T-Jay Creamer from the Victoria Golf Course in Victoria, British Columbia, as the first CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award winner for 2017.

The new CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year award recognizes the specific achievements of a golf course assistant superintendent whose performance and contributions to the success of the facility go beyond those that would normally be expected.

The award is to be presented to an individual who has contributed to his or her golf facility in a significant way and who has demonstrated professionalism, leadership, innovation and a team approach in their work.

Liberty Corner, N.J., USA and St Andrews, Scotland – The R&A and the USGA announce key features of the proposed new World Handicap System (WHS), designed to provide all golfers with a consistent measure of playing ability globally.

The idea for a new, unified system was conceived by the USGA and The R&A and developed following an extensive review of systems administered by six existing handicapping authorities - Golf Australia, the Council of National Golf Unions (CONGU) in Great Britain and Ireland, the European Golf Association (EGA), the South African Golf Association (SAGA), the Argentine Golf Association (AAG) and the United States Golf Association (USGA).

BC Golf Proud To Be A Partner For The Conference Which Was A Great Learning Experience For Attending Golf Coaches

About 250 people took in the fourth annual BC Sport Leadership Conference this past Sunday at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond, B.C.

Attendees represented a variety of sports and organizations, including, volleyball, softball, Tennis, British Columbia Golf, synchronized swimming, Special Olympics, lacrosse, boxing, viaSport and the BC Games Society, just to name a few.

Red travel coffee mugs, provided by belairdirect, awaited excited attendees as they entered the ballroom for a day of fun, learning and networking.

Emcee, Matt Baker from TSN 1040/BC Lions, welcomed everyone, took care of a few ‘housekeeping’ items and kept the show running like a well-oiled machine.

Up first, five-time Olympian, Natalie Cook kicked things off with energy and her presentation titled Believe: Strategies & Practical Tips toBuild Confidence in Individuals and Teams.

One of Harry White's most gracious and talented young disciples, Chris Crisologo, pays tribute to the gentleman who helped him fall in love with the game, but more importantly, as Chris iterates, taught him so many valuable life lessons.

The one question I get asked often is ‘why did you choose golf?’ The short and quick answer I like to give is that my dad thought it was a good idea to introduce me to all sports and see which one stuck.

Here’s the long story that got me hooked to competitive golf, one that seems very fitting.

The 2018 BC Sport Leadership Conference will feature Softball Excellence founder and renowned coach, Cindy Bristow.

A past President of the National Softball Coaches Association and Director of Development for the International Softball Federation, Bristow, has also worked as a color analyst for ESPN’s college softball coverage, is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame and worked with Olympic softball teams from the USA, Greece, and China.

British Columbia Golf is the Provincial Sport Organization, recognized by Government and Golf Canada as the body responsible for the sport of golf within British Columbia.

Membership is comprised of over 300 golf facilities with an individual membership that exceeds 50,000 golfers. British Columbia Golf is incorporated under the British Columbia Societies Act with By-Laws approved by the membership.

A volunteer board of directors governs British Columbia Golf and sets strategic direction and policies for the association. The board size is twelve and consists of nine directors, elected at large, two elected by the Zone Council and a Past President. Board terms are staggered, with a three-year term.

The nomination committee is currently seeking interested individuals who have an interest and passion in engaging British Columbians in the sport of golf. In total three directors at large will be elected at the Annual General Meeting, which is expected to occur in March 2018.

Springfield, N.J.– Canada’s golf course superintendents cruised to victory over their American counterparts at the inaugural Can Am Cup, earning a 73-point victory at the rain-shortened event.

The Cam Am Cup is a Ryder Cup-style golf and educational event that sees golf course superintendents from Canada square off against their colleagues from the United States.

"How would you like to design Carmel North?" This was the question posed by a real estate agent at Colliers International late one Friday afternoon in 1990.

The next day, he introduced me to representatives of Tanabe Corporation of Japan, who retained my planning and real estate consulting firm to carry out a Due Diligence study for approximately 1,000 acres of land along the Sea-to-Sky Corridor at Furry Creek.

We were given just two weeks to assess the feasibility of accommodating a new golf course, 1000 housing units, a marina and a resort. At the time, all I could think of was Terry Jacks and the Save the Howe Sound Society; and having just come off a dramatic highly publicized failure trying to rezone the 753 acre Spetifore Lands, I did not want to be associated with another high profile failure.

RICHMOND, British Columbia (PGA of BC) — The PGA of BC proudly named the recipients of its annual honours for 2017 during the association's Awards Celebration presented by Replay Golf Supplies at the River Rock Casino Resort.

Following an extensive search of accomplished business and marketing leaders, the PGA of Canada has selected one of its own to lead the association to a new level of sustainable growth and success, its President announced.
 
“Considering the large number of highly accomplished business leaders who entered this competition, I am excited to announce that our Board of Directors has selected Kevin Thistle to lead the PGA of Canada into an exciting new era of success,” Steve Wood, President of the Board of Directors of the PGA of Canada announced.

The Golf Hall of Fame of BC is inducting new members on October 18, 2017 at Point Grey Golf & Country Club. Prior to the induction ceremony, the BC Golf House is releasing a series of biographies of the inductees.

See who the honourees are and read about their accomplishments which helped propel them into the company of this province's elite golfers as recognized by the Golf Hall of Fame of BC.

Canadian Bob Vokey was born in Verdun, Quebec in 1939. His father, Walter, was a precision tool and die maker, an avid golfer and constant tinkerer of golf equipment. Bob did not necessarily share his father's passion for golf as a child, but he observed and assisted in his father's club creations.

Bob, at 25 left Montreal for the United States and settled in Carlsbad, California. Despite his earlier feelings toward golf, he became smitten with the game and wanted to become involved in some way. He lived near a golf course, and started to play competitively, eventually developing his father's passion for "tinkering" with golf clubs.

Kwadwo 'Kojo' Frempong spends a lot of his working day on the golf course and it seems many people are a little jealous about that. “I get asked a lot, how did you get that job, and how do I get a job like you,” Frempong says with a chuckle. “And I say, 'You have to wait until I die.' Then I add that it’s very stressful.”

Frempong’s job is to do the course and slope ratings for golf courses in the province for British Columbia Golf. And that entails spending a lot of time on the course. It’s a dirty job but somebody has to do it.
