DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Quebec’s Maude-Aimée LeBlanc won with panache, earning her LPGA Tour card for 2016 at the end of the five qualifying rounds in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Sherbrooke, Que., native recorded a score of 71, 1-under par in the final round Sunday. Her cumulative record of 350 (-10) saw her finish tied for fourth, a single-stroke be enjoying her second year with full status on the LPGA Tour, having previous qualified in 2011.

DONGGUAN, China (December 6)—North Vancouver’s Eugene Wong finished fifth on the 2015 Ping An Bank China Tour – PGA TOUR China Series’ Order of Merit, a position that earned him membership on the 2016 Web.com Tour. Wong's fellow British Columbian, Justin Shin from Maple Ride, slipped to 6th spot on the OOM, narrowly missing his ticket to the next level. 

Besides Wong other players moving to the Web.com Tour are Australia’s Bryden Macpherson, New Zealand’s Josh Geary and China’s Xinjun Zhang and Zecheng Dou. The players received their membership cards during a ceremony following the final event of the season, the Capital Airlines – HNA Real Estate Championship.

Oakville, Ont. – As golf’s governing body in Canada, Golf Canada, in conjunction with the R&A and the United States Golf Association (USGA), announce the new revisions to the Rules of Golf for 2016.

In accordance with the Joint Rules Committee’s four-year review cycle of the Rules of Golf, the new changes will come into effect on January 1, 2016.

OAKVILLE, Ont. – No fewer than 8 players from British Columbia have been named to the National Amateur Team squads for 2016. Those teams include the Men's and Women's National Amateur Teams as well as the Developmental Squad. The Young Pro Squad for 2016 is expected to be announced in mid-November.

It almost seemed like a roast when retired Vancouver Province editor, reporter and columnist Kent “Cookie” Gilchrist was named the 2015 recipient of the Northwest Golf Media Association Distinguished Service Award.

Kris Jonasson, executive director of the British Columbia Golf Association, nominated Gilchrist for the award and presented him to the 50-plus people who attended the NWGMA Awards Luncheon at Tacoma Golf & Country Club on Oct. 8.

British Columbia Golf's nomination committee is currently seeking individuals who have an interest and passion in engaging British Columbians in the sport of golf.

Scoreboards rarely tell the real story of a golf tournament and for five British Columbia girls who were selected to play at The Marshes for the World Junior Girls Championship, that could not be more true.

While South Koreans and Scandinavians dominated the top of the leaderboard, the Canadian girls, led by Alisha Lau, Kathrine Chan and Euna Han on Team Canada 2 and Hannah Lee, Tiffany Kong and Ontario’s Grace St-Germain on Team Canada 1, were the hometown favourites who bravely played on despite their golf games not being at their peaks.

It was almost a complete British Columbia sweep of the six Team Canada spots for the 2015 World Junior Girls Golf Championship in Ottawa later this month.

The event, which runs Sept. 20-25 at The Marshes Golf Club, sees three-player teams competing in 72-hole team and individual competitions. Because Canada is the host country, it can field two teams and BC players are front and centre for both squads.

Victoria, B.C. – Brent Wilson of Cobble Hill, B.C. shot a final round 1-under-par 70 to come from behind and win the 31st Pacific Northwest Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship.

The 54-hole stroke-play championship was held on the Valley Course at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort in Victoria, B.C., and was conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA).

VERNON (August 20) - Courtenay’s Abigail Rigsby shot a new course record (-6) 65 at Spallumcheen Golf & Country Club on Thursday to win the BC Juvenile Girls Championship by three strokes over Surrey’s Hannah Lee.

Rigsby had a spotless card, with six birdies, including a downhill 20-footer on her last hole that saw her better the previous course record, a (-4) 67 shot by Mary-Ann Hayward at the 2013 Canadian Senior Women’s Championship.

“I just found out at the scoring tent that I had set the new course record,” said Rigsby, who was playing her final tournament of the season and final BC Juvenile.

VERNON (August 20) - AJ Ewart of Coquitlam shot his third consecutive under-par round and took home the BC Juvenile Boys Championship by six strokes over runner-up Keaton Gudz.

Ewart shot rounds of 70, 66 and 69 to finish at (-8) 205. Gudz shot a final round 73 to finish at (-2) 211, while Andrew Spalti and Tristan Mandur finished T3 at (-1) 212.

For Ewart, it’s the biggest British Columbia Golf title he’s won since winning the 2012 BC Bantam Boys title. “I’ve been so close so many times so to finally win, I’m pretty happy right now,” said Ewart. “It’s pretty surreal.”

The British Columbia Golf team of BC Amateur champion Jared du Toit, runner-up Stu Macdonald and third-place finisher Kevin Kwon came from behind to win the Willingdon Cup at the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championships in Ontario.

“It was a nice little surprise to wake up to,” said Stuart Macdonald of the winning team. “It feels awesome. We’ve joined some good names up there [in the championship’s history]. I know B.C. has had some pretty good runs with the Willingdon Cup. I thought we had a pretty good team this year.”

Kelowna’s Megan Osland’s golf future continues to burn bright after she finished T12 at the Stage 1 LPGA Qualifying School in Rancho Mirage, CA from Aug. 3-9.

Osland, who just completed her senior year at San Jose State University, shot rounds of 73-72-69-72 to finish at (-2) 286 and handily advances to Stage 2 LPGA Q School, which will be held Oct. 19-25 at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, FL.

Surrey’s Michelle Kim continued her dream summer by winning the Canadian Junior Girls title at Deer Park Municipal Golf Club in Yorkton, SK.

Kim’s (-6) total of 286 was two strokes better than fellow Surrey golfer Hannah Lee, who battled a cold to still card a (-4) total of 288. Kim, a member of Golf Canada’s Development Squad, had earlier won the BC Women’s Amateur at Duncan Meadows and the BC Junior Girls at Cordova Bay.

LAB@Northview golfer Jake Scarrow overcame a five-stroke deficit in just 10 holes to win the British Columbia Junior Boys' Championship Presented by Canadian Direct Insurance at the Park Meadows Course at the Osoyoos Golf Club.

The incoming University of Idaho freshman shot a final round (-3) 69 to finish at (-13) 275 and beat second- and third-round leader Zaahidali (Ziggy) Nathu by two strokes.

17-year-old Michelle Kim is the 2015 winner of the Flumerfelt Cup after she held off a furious charge from her older sister Taylor at the British Columbia Women’s Amateur at Duncan Meadows Friday afternoon.

Michelle’s final round (-1) 71 to finish at (-3) 285 was good enough to beat Taylor Kim the defending champion. Taylor shot a (-4) round of 68 to finish at (-2) 286. Alisha Lau and Gloria Choi finished T3 at (+2) 290. “I’m very happy,” said Michelle as she posed for photos with the trophy. “It is so awesome to have my name underneath Taylor’s on this trophy.”

Michelle, a Team Canada Development Team member, hopes to follow in her sister’s footsteps, and having held the first-round lead at the British Columbia Golf Amateur and Mid-Amateur at Duncan Meadows Golf Course, Michelle knows it won’t be easy to win the most prestigious title in provincial amateur golf.
