LAWTON, Okla. (Oct. 23, 2018) – Oklahoma Christian's Abigail Rigsby played brilliantly at Lawton Country Club, but she still needed to put on a steely display of endurance in a four-hole playoff for medalist honors.

The junior from Courtenay, British Columbia, capped her final-round 1-under-par 70 with her second career playoff win to take top honors in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate, leading the 15th-ranked Lady Eagles to a runner-up team finish in the 12-team event.

As The PGA TOUR has quickly teed off on its new season, we note that two of Canada's top 3 ranked Male Professionals hail from Abbotsford, BC. Fitting also that Adam Hadwin (No.1) and Nick Taylor (No.3), will be partnering up to represent Canada at the upcoming World Cup of Golf in Melbourne next month.

Meanwhile, BC continues to see its fair share of players in both the Men's and Women's amateur and professional categories holding prominent positions in the Weekly Top Ten Powered by RBC Canadian Rankings.

TORONTO – Sporting Life Inc. and Golf Town Limited have announced they will merge to become Sporting Life Group Limited (“SLG”).

Sporting Life is a premium sports and lifestyle retailer that provides an assortment of high-end sport and lifestyle brands coupled with a focus on premium customer service.

It currently has 11 locations operating in Ontario, Alberta and Quebec, following the recent opening of a 27, 500 square foot store last week. In 2019, it will open another flagship store in the new “Amazing Brentwood” Mall in Vancouver.

“I’m not good enough to keep track of my handicap.” Craig Loughry, Golf Canada’s Director of Handicap and Course Rating, is tired of hearing that.

“The purpose of the Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis,” the Golf Canada Handicap Manual states.

“If you’re playing golf regularly, you’re keeping track of your scores in some fashion,” he points out. “You’re golfing for a reason or reasons, whether it’s for the competition against yourself or others, recreation, socializing, whatever. It obviously is a significant part of your activity schedule, so why not keep track on an ongoing basis?

LONDON, England – A global consensus amongst leaders in public health, public policy and sport backs golf in the race to tackle physical inactivity and the prevention of a range of non-communicable disease (NCD) including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer of the breast and colon.

Evidence linking golf and health, commissioned by the World Golf Foundation and supported by The R&A, was presented this week in London at the 7th Congress of the International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH). The biennial scientific meeting is widely regarded as the world’s flagship physical activity and public health event attended by more than 1,000 delegates from 60 countries.

CAMPBELL RIVER -- If the folks at Guinness World Records had a category for fastest construction of a golf course, the newest addition to the Vancouver Island Golf Trail would certainly be a contender.

Campbell River Golf & Country Club, which opened in early August, came to life in about 17 months. Apparently no corners were cut because the course turned out beautifully.

Kelowna’s Megan Osland won the National Women’s Golf Association's 54-hole Pro Tournament that was held at the Preserve at Turnbull Bay in New Smyrna Beach Florida from September 29th – October 1st.

OCTOBER 10, 2018 - RICHMOND, BC (PGA of British Columbia) - The PGA of BC proudly named the provincial recipients of its annual honours for 2018 during the Association's Awards Celebration presented by Replay Golf Supplies on Wednesday evening at the River Rock Casino Resort.

Jackie Little (Procter, B.C.) shot rounds of 72-81 to win the 32nd Pacific Northwest Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. This is her third title in this championship, having previously won in 2008 and 2009.

In the 7th Pacific Northwest Super Senior Women’s Amateur, Holly Horwood (Vancouver, B.C.) shot rounds of 73-80 to successfully defend her title. She won the championship last year, when it was held at Overlake Golf and Country Club in Medina, Wash. Horwood also won the 2012 Pacific Northwest Senior Women’s Amateur.

October 3, 2018 - VANCOUVER, BC (PGA of British Columbia) – Ashley Zibrik captured her second career title in the PGA of BC Women’s Championship presented by Dexim Golfwear at Point Grey Golf & Country Club, topping one of the strongest fields the tournament has ever seen in its return as a standalone event.

Zibrik (Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club) recorded 40 stableford points in Wednesday’s final round, making six birdies against two bogeys, to reach a total of 74 points over the tournament’s 36 holes and earn a three-point victory. Also the PGA of BC Women’s Champion in 2012, Zibrik took home $1,000 for the win.

ROBERTS CREEK, B.C. – Jennifer Gu emerged as leader in the Girls Division and Ilirian Zalli captured the Boys Division at the Future Links, driven by Acura Fall Series Championship at Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club on Sunday.

Gu, who started the third and final round tied with the lead, carded a 1-over 73 to distance herself from the pack en route to a six-stroke victory. The West Vancouver, B.C., native finished at 7 over par in the 54-hole event.

VERNON -- Myles Johnson is proud to call Vernon home. It’s where Johnson was born and raised, where he learned to golf and where he has spent more than 20 years in the golf industry. So it’s probably safe to say no one was happier than Johnson, the head professional of Spallumcheen Golf & Country Club, when Vernon-area golf courses recently formed a consortium to market themselves as a golf destination.

“I love it,” Johnson says. “I think for too long we have been trying to do things on our own and we end up being lost in the Kelowna-Okanagan shuffle. I think by doing things together we are going to let people know what we have and give ourselves better exposure.”

Burnaby, B.C. - The Grizzly Golf Tour will host two golf tournaments this fall at Kensington Park Pitch & Putt course in Burnaby that will include both junior and adult golfers.

The Kensington Open on September 30th and the Boonaby Halloween Open on October 28th will feature two fun, competitive days of golf. Low gross medals and prizes will be presented to winners in each age division. There will also be prizes awarded for closest-to-the-pin, hole-in-ones and a reverse scorecard draw.

British Columbia Golf, with the support of Titleist, will be holding a Performance Camp at Seymour Golf & Country Club on the North Shore on October 27th and 28th, 2018. 

This Provincial Training Camp will be used as a part of the team selection process for the 2019 season, including the North Pacific Junior Team Matches, Girls Junior Americas Cup and Eddie Hogan Cup Matches. 

BC Golf uses multiple criteria to make selections for their teams, this will be 1 of the criteria used for the above 3 teams

LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. AND ST. ANDREWS, SCOTLAND (Sept. 18, 2018) - A global online questionnaire and data-gathering exercise on distance in golf has been launched by the USGA and The R&A today as part of the Distance Insights project.

The detailed questionnaire is open to all interested participants in golf until Oct. 31, 2018 and is available in 10 languages. Administered independently by Sports Marketing Surveys Inc., it can be accessed at both usga.org/distanceinsights and at randa.org/distanceinsights.
