Two days will be at the Musqueam Community Centre with one day at the BC Sport Conference, registration included in the course.

Lighthouse has been selected as the firm to lead the CEO search

Chief Sport Officer Jeff Thompson has been appointed as interim CEO effective January 9, 2017

With the recent announcement that CEO Scott Simmons will be leaving the organization, Golf Canada’s Board of Directors is engaged in the process to search for a new CEO.

Golf Canada wishes to take an inclusive and comprehensive approach with this CEO search. The process will involve garnering input from key stakeholders in the golf industry to design the optimal CEO profile.

Proposals were sought from executive recruitment firms that expressed interest in participating in the search for Golf Canada’s new CEO.

Golf Canada’s second installment of the Tournament Administration and Referees’ School (TARS) will be held at the Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport in Richmond, B.C., from April 27th to 30th.

New for 2017, they are extending the invitation to all certified level 2 rules officials and PGA of Canada professionals!

The objective of the Tournament Administration and Referees’ School is to get championship volunteers and staff members from key golf associations/clubs in Canada assembled to discuss important topics related to tournament administration and competitions.

BURNABY, BC – Former Simon Fraser University men’s golf captain, Matthew Steinbach, has been appointed Interim Head Coach of the men’s and women’s golf programs while long-time coach John Buchanan is on medical leave from the University, Senior Director of Athletics and Recreation Theresa Hanson announced today.

Buchanan, the legendary SFU Athletics Hall of Fame coach, who started the Clan men’s soccer and golf programs, has worked at the University for almost 50 years until recently.

As golf’s governing body in Canada, Golf Canada, in conjunction with the R&A and the United States Golf Association (USGA), today announced a new Local Rule which will come into effect January 1, 2017.

Along with the R&A and USGA, Golf Canada holds a unique position as the only other governing body that sits on the Joint Rules Committee.

Golf Canada will be implementing this Local Rule as part of their Standard Local Rules which will be formally ratified at our annual general meeting by the Rules and Amateur Status Committee.

Mary Parsons of Delta has been nominated for the Sport BC Junior Female Athlete of The Year Award.

Parsons, who had an outstanding 2016 season with 4 significant victories and is the number one ranked junior female golfer in Canada, will find out on March 8th, 2017 during the awards ceremony dinner being held at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in Vancouver, whether she will be adding another honour to her name.

Golf, at the competitive level, is all about the leaderboard. After all, that is ultimately how players are judged.

Right now, British Columbia amateur golfers are enjoying the view from the top. As we head down the 18th fairway and prepare to put a wrap on another year, it is not a stretch to say that 2016 has been a very good one for British Columbia Golf. No wonder Debbie Pyne is smiling.

It was Jessica Wallace’s best year on the Symetra Tour and it will also be her last. Wallace, the two-time B.C. Junior Girls champion from Langley who has spent the past four and half years chasing her professional golfing dream, has decided to step away from the game she loves.

“It’s something that has been in the back of my mind for a couple of years,” says Wallace. “I have always been someone who has had a backup plan in my head even through I had my primary goal. I have always been thinking what would I like to do outside of golf.”

North America’s Top Coaching Minds Share Multi-Sport Winning Attitudes And Practices

The BC Sport Conference is a one-day multi-sport coaching conference being held on Saturday, January 14th 2017. It is designed to help coaches perform at their best level for each athlete and team that they work with. 

The conference is bundled together with an optional sport-specific Coaching Symposium (Sunday, January 15th), making for a full weekend of professional development.

Presented by Volleyball BC, BC Sport Conferencewill feature top coaches, athletes, and consultants who have worked and excelled at the provincial, national, and international levels. British Columbia Golf is also proud to be a supporting partner in the BC Sport Conference.

During the mid-November early signing period, five Team Canada Development Squad athletes signed National Letters of Intent to commit to NCAA golf programs for the 2017-18 season.

On the women’s side, three athletes made their official announcements to join NCAA Div I programs next year.

At a conference for the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA) in early November at Amelia Island, Fla., Barb Trammell was named the new president of the IAGA. She will serve a one-year term.

An industry veteran with over 30 years’ experience in the golf business, Barb has served as CEO of the Oregon Golf Association since November 2007, a position she will continue to serve.

The IAGA is made up of golf administrators from state, regional, provincial and national golf associations, and serves as a means of exchanging information, techniques and communication among the world’s golf organizations.

The Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) has announced the 2016 Players of the Year. Those honoured include Men’s Player of the Year, Jared du Toit of Kimberley, B.C.; Women’s, Naomi Ko of Victoria, B.C.; Men’s Mid-Amateur, Reid Hatley of Hayden Lake, Idaho; Women’s Mid-Amateur, Amanda Jacobs of Portland, Ore.; Senior Men’s, Pat O’Donnell, Happy Valley, Ore.; Senior Women’s, Anita Wicks of Roseburg, Ore.; Junior Boys’, Spencer Tibbits of Vancouver, Wash.; and Junior Girls’, Ellie Slama of Salem, Ore.

On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, Joyce Millicent Woodruff (Bader) passed away peacefully in Kamloops, BC at the age of 82. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Woody, her daughters, Marilee (Greg), Marcia (Alan) and her grandsons, Jordan, Daren (Lexi) and Corey (Brooke), brother, Gerry, niece, Larinda and her children, Heather (Joel), Jeffery (Natalie), Haley (Kyle) and Hannah, as well as numerous family and friends.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Dick and Charlotte and her sister-in-law Phyllis. Joyce was born on October 6, 1934, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Woody and Joyce were married in 1956 and settled in Victoria where Woody was in the Navy. They raised two daughters and then retired to Vernon and Kamloops to be closer to their grandchildren.

Joyce was an avid sports fan and golfer, active in the BCLGA in her retirement. She was a wonderful piano player and singer and enjoyed taking part in the choir. She loved animals of all kinds but her main loves in life were her three grandchildren. She didn't miss a single sports game that they played.

A Celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Gathering Place at Overlander Extended Care, 953 Southill Street, Kamloops, BC, with Celebrant Glen Peter officiating.

Should friends desire, donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the British Columbia Lung Association in memory of Joyce would be greatly appreciated.

The 2016 Distinguised Service Award winner, as honoured by the Northwest Golf Media Association, is Tom Cade.

Cade is the long-time editor of Pacific Northwest Golfer magazine, which is published by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA). He is also the senior director of communications for the PNGA and the Washington State Golf Association.
