20th Anniversary Golf For Kids Charity Classic Goes September 8th At Bear Mountain

VICTORIA, B.C. (September 4, 2018) - This Saturday, September 8, 2018, marks the 20th anniversary of the annual Golf for Kids Charity Classic at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa in Victoria, BC.

This year, over 180 participants from across the province and the country will be taking part in the day-long event that provides significant support for children and children’s charities in BC. Last year’s event raised an astounding, record-breaking $1 million in one day, bringing the total funds raised over the tournament’s 19-year history to more than $5.3 million.

This year, organizers are aiming to surpass that milestone and eclipse the $6 million mark. Thanks to the ongoing commitment and generosity of sponsors, players, volunteers, and philanthropists, Golf for Kids has been building incrementally on its success for 20 years.

Making Dreams Come True

Once again Golf for Kids is working with its primary beneficiary, the Help Fill a Dream Foundation, to fulfill the dreams of ten children. The dreams to be filled at this year’s event include a trip to Australia, a trip to the World Cup in France, a trip to Hawaii, a trip to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium to be a dolphin trainer, and several trips to Disneyworld and Disneyland.

“The incredible success of Golf For Kids plays a big part in our ability to fill dreams, and makes an enormous impact on the lives of the children and families we want to support,” said Craig Smith, Help Fill a Dream  Foundation Executive Director.

Based in Victoria, the Help Fill a Dream Foundation provides hope, help and happiness for Vancouver Island children with life threatening conditions. Golf For Kids donations will help fund the foundation’s efforts to provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences and support to Vancouver Island children and their families in need.

Supporting Communities Where We Work And Live

“Not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined the incredible Canada-wide support of this event, the associated outcome and the number of kids and families that have been helped,” says Dale Douglas, co-host and co-founder for the Golf for Kids Tournament.

“The success we are bringing into this event in 2018 reflects a culmination of countless volunteer hours and a widespread enthusiasm by those in attendance to support BC children and families through the organizations working to make a difference in their lives.”

Funds raised will continue to be dedicated to local charities and programs including the Help Fill a Dream Foundation, the Arthritis Society, Scouts Canada, KidSport, Raise-a-Reader, Canucks Autism Network, and Victoria Hospitals Foundation and many more. In total since 1999, hundreds of charities and/or Family Trusts have benefitted.
