Vikes Junior Golf Tour Gets Big Boost From Bayview Place
Feb 10, 2017 - Bayview Place and Roundhouse Master Developer, Kenneth Mariash Sr. is investing in the future of golf on Vancouver Island.
Bayview Place is providing $75,000 over the next three years to expand the Vikes Junior Golf Tour and youth development clinics. The investment will also include financial assistance to qualifying graduates of the Tour attending the University of Victoria (UVic).
Cordova Bay Director of Golf and Tour Commissioner Jim Goddard along with Tour Director Bob Russell have established a very successful youth development program.
The objective is to expand the program with support from as many clubs as possible in Greater Victoria. A private non-profit, the Tour sponsors camps and year-round clinics for beginners.
It also operates 15 to 20 competitive tournaments a year as well as 'Little Vikes' events that introduce children as young as 4 to the game by playing 3 or 4 holes on area courses under the supervision of members of the UVic men's and women's golf teams.
At present close to 200 children participate in its various programs, close to half of them are 12 years of age or younger. In addition to expanding existing Tour programs and supporting a scholarship fund, Bayview Place's sponsorship includes:
- Support for the establishment of a new Bayview Place Vikes Performance Tour creating a series of competitions where the Island's professionals, best amateurs and juniors will play with and against each other
- Three exemptions into the 2017 Bayview Place DC Payments PGA Open, one each for a professional, amateur and junior
Patricia and Kenneth Mariash Sr. have supported Victoria's PGA event since 2007 and have been the title sponsor since 2013. That investment has led to the growth and development of golf on Vancouver Island which now continues through the Bayview Place Vikes Junior Golf Tour Program and scholarship fund.
