Having warmed up on more modest terrain at the Spallumcheen Golf & Country Club and Vernon Golf & Country Club, iG writer Gord Montgomery was ready to test his skill, and wayward shot-making abilities, at higher elevations in the North Okanagan as he headed upward and onward to challenge The Rise and Predator Ridge Resort’s two courses.

At the same time though, you’ll be using every shot your phone camera can handle with stunning hilltop views of Okanagan Lake and the mountains beyond.

By Brad Ziemer, British Columbia Golf

PARKSVILLE -- It takes more than great golf to make a great golf road trip. Think about it. On a three-day golf getaway, you and your pals are likely only going to spend about 12 hours on the golf course. No matter how good the golf is or how many birdie putts you drain, the quality of the considerable time spent away from the course will ultimately determine just how memorable that trip is.

That’s one of the reasons why the Parksville & Qualicum Beach area of Vancouver Island is such a great destination for a golf getaway. During my recent three-day visit -- we’ll call it the Mid-Island Express -- the golf was terrific. But so was the time spent between rounds.

Former Masters Champ Mike Weir Is Counting The Days Until His PGA Tour Champions Debut

By Brad Ziemer, British Columbia Golf

Mike Weir is too excited about the future to spend a lot of time dwelling on the past, but he’s more than happy to do a little reminiscing about his first PGA TOUR win 20 years ago.

Yes, it really has been two decades since Weir thrilled golf fans with his Air Canada Championship victory at Northview Golf Club in Surrey. If you were there, you will never forget it. Weir certainly hasn’t, although he has a hard time wrapping his head around the fact that it has been 20 years.

It was Sept. 5, 1999 when Weir recorded his second straight seven-under 64 to beat American Fred Funk by two shots and get that elusive first PGA TOUR win.
