British Columbia Golf Saddened By Passing Of Longtime Volunteer Lynne Powlik

British Columbia Golf would like to offer our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Lynne Marie Jeannette Powlik who passed away peacefully on the afternoon of September 27th,  at the age of 77.

Obtaining her National Status as a golf rules Official, her valuable rules knowledge was an asset to many BC Golf tournaments. Lynne was given the Volunteer Recognition Award in 2011, and certainly was deserving for her work with British Columbia Golf. Lynne was also a member of the Fort Langley Golf Ladies Club for years, and was very giving of her time and support to the club.

"Over the years our paths have crossed many times. She was always one of those people smiling and happy with her life, family and the people she met. She was often traipsing around the world and would send me pictures of herself in exotic places studying the, 'Decisions on the Rules of Golf'. Of course, she would always have good stories to tell about the many places she and Gerry visited.

At the many tournaments she worked, in either a rules or administrative capacity, she would always show up with a smile ready to go to work. We enjoyed many glasses of wine together and she always shared humorous anecdotes, often about her own little mishaps.

I know she would want to be remembered with a smile."

- Susan White (Longtime, now retired, Tournament Director for British Columbia Golf)

Lynne Powlik October 23, 1943 - September 27, 2021 (respectfully reprinted from Canada Obituaries)

Lynne was a loving and caring woman who held family close to her heart. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 54 years, Gerry; daughters Laura, Karen (Karl) and Sandy; sister Raye (Bill); sister-in-law Lorraine; three grandchildren Renée (Ryan), Dylan and Isabella; family and friends. An active teacher (Gr. 7 French Immersion Blacklock Elementary), golfer, curler, gardener, knitter, volunteer (BC Golf Association 2011 Volunteer of the Year, Thrifter’s Paradise), CWL member, national certified golf referee, she was the life of the party and a friend to all. She was a beautiful soul filled with endless joy, love, generosity and kindness. She greeted everyone at any moment warmly and with a hug and a smile. Lynne will forever be a guiding light and source of love for us.

There will be a prayer service at 7pm on Tuesday, October 12th and a funeral mass at 10:30am on Wednesday, October 13th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church: 20676 Fraser Hwy, Langley, BC. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the reception following will be by invitation only.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, please consider making a donation to the BC Lung Association (BC.lung.ca/donate) in memory of Lynne.
