Two B.C. Boys Take Both Spots In U.S. Junior Amateur Qualifier

Coquitlam's A.J. Ewart was joined by Surrey's Khan Lee as the two qualifiers at a 36-hole U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying event held at the RMG Club at The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway, Washington on June 21st.
Ewart had to overcome a severe case of jet-lag having just returned from the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup at the Chukyo Golf Club Ishino Course in Japan where he posted a 3-under par score for the 72 hole event finishing in 19th spot competing against the best junior golfers in the world.
Lee also had some overcoming to do as he opened the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier with a 79 but bounced back nicely with a round of even par 72.
Ewart took medallist honours shooting (73-74) - 147 at the Ryan Moore designed RMG Club, which was set up according to typically difficult USGA standards playing from the tips and with tucked pins.
Lee's final tally was just two shots back of Ewart as he carded (79-72) - 151 in taking the second available spot at the qualifier making it a clean sweep for the two B.C. boys who will now make plans to head for Tennessee in July to compete in one of the most prestigious junior tournaments in the world.
British Columbia was well represented at the qualifier as some 9 competitors from this province teed it up. In addition to Ewart and Lee others in the field included Daniel Sun from Surrey, Willis Lee and Andy Jang from Langely, Tristan Mandur of Mill Bay, Keith Ng and Fritz Lo from Richmond and Courtenay's Victor Choi.

The 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship is being held July 18-23 at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn., while the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship goes July 18-23 at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J.
