Surrey’s Taylor Kim and Sue Kim of Langley have qualified for next month’s U.S. Women’s Open.
Taylor Kim, 21, was the medalist at a sectional qualifier Tuesday at Green Valley Golf CLub in Fairfield, Calif. She shot two rounds of 71 to finish one shot ahead of runner-up Julie Yang of Stillwater, Okla.
Kim, who won the 2014 B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship and last year finished second to her younger sister Michelle, just completed her senior year at Kent State University in Ohio. Former Coquitlam resident Jisoo Keel, who now lives in California, was the the first alternate at the Green Valley sectional.
Sue Kim -- no relation to Taylor -- was co-medalist at a sectional qualifier Tuesday in Massachusetts. Kim, a regular on the Symetra Tour, shots rounds of 66 ad 69 to finish at nine-under par.
The two Kims will join Victoria’s Naomi Ko at the U.S. Women’s Open, which goes July 7-10 at CordeValle Golf Course in San Martin, Calif.
Ko, an 18-year-old who just completed her freshman year at North Carolina State University, qualified last month at a sectional site at the Home Course in Dupont, Wash.
