Want To Coach In Elementary School Sport Programs?

British Columbia Golf is taking part in a joint training session for P2F (Playground To Fairway) and SOAR (Sharing Our Activities And Resources) in early December - Jody Jackson, LPGA will be the master trainer for golf for this training workshop.

SOAR is a program developed by three provincial sport organizations, Tennis BC, British Columbia Golf and Curl BC, to help elementary school students experience three great sports.

SOAR programs are designed to develop what’s called “physical literacy” – the basic movement kids develop to enhance their coordination. The program delivers FUN-damental movement, sport discovery skills, and physical activity in a safe and fun environment.

It brings trained sports specific instructors to teach students the foundations of tennis, golf and curling without the hassle of booking courts, fields or rinks. The sports are played at each school with customized programs and equipment designed for elementary aged students.

Want To Work In Elementary School Sport Programs?

BC Golf
The Playground to Fairway School Golf Program introduces basic golf skills to school-aged children across BC in a simple, safe and fun way. Each session is guided by a trained coach, in a comfortable setting to ensure kids have a positive experience learning the basics of golf. Following the session, schools interested in starting a golf program can partner with BC Golf to access resources and implement programming.

Tennis BC
The Tennis for Schools Learn to Play Program is an in-school tennis program for children in grades K-8. This innovative and fun-filled program utilizes mini racquets appropriate for each individual student’s size, as well as modified foam balls and mini nets in the school gym. By using courts and equipment appropriate for their age and size, children learn the fundamentals of tennis in a safe environment.

Curl BC
The Rocks & Rings program is designed to introduce the Olympic sport of curling to elementary school children. Rocks & Rings is delivered to kids age 6-12 in a school gym. Anyone can be a Rocks & Rings instructor, regardless of curling experience. Based on the CS4L ‘FUNdamentals’ stage – it’s a lot of fun for kids of all ages!

About SOAR
SOAR started out as a pilot program in early 2012 to bring curling, golf and tennis to rural communities all over British Columbia. Now the program has grown thanks to support and funding from the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada through the BC Sport Participation Program administered by viaSport.

This is what a participating teacher from Vancouver Island had to say about the program: “I would highly recommend this SOAR experience! It also motivated me to seek curling and golf activities for our students. Tennis, golf and curling are all great lifelong sports!”

Coaches and instructors are trained in delivery of the school sport program that each organization offers, providing schools with high quality FUN-damental movement skill education programs at low cost.

The three programs offered include:

  • Curl BC’s Rocks & Rings Program
  • Tennis BC’s Learn & Play Program
  • British Columbia Golf’s Playground to Fairway Program

SOAR is available in the following school district areas:
