It’s two golds in the bank for BC golfers and possibly two more to come on Sunday.
Reigning Canadian Juvenile Girls champion Hannah Lee threw down a 67 during Round 2 of the Western Canadian Summer Games on Saturday and that helped the BC team to another girls’ team title in Wood Buffalo, AB.
The BC girls won by a whopping 58 strokes, as their 435 total was well ahead of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, who finished T2 at 493 strokes.
The BC boys also won the team title, as their score of 446 was 9 better than Alberta and 22 strokes better than third-place Manitoba.
Lee also leads the individual girls’ division with only one round to go, as she has a six-stroke lead over teammate Tiffany Kong, who sits at 145. Saskatchewan’s Brooke Hobson is the only player to break the BC stranglehold in the top 5, sitting at 149, while Alisha Lau, at 151 and Shirin Anjarwalla, at 157, round out the top of the leaderboard.
On the boys side, it’s also BC in the top two spots in the individual race. AJ Ewart shot a second-round 74 and sits at 145, with teammate Tristan Mandur three strokes back after a second-round 72 left him at 148.
Max Sekulic of Alberta is in third place at 150, while BC’s Khan Lee sits in eighth place at 155 and Keenan Flemming T11 at 159.
The final round, to determine the individual champions, starts at 7 a.m. local time at the Fort McMurray Golf Course.
