[RICHMOND, B.C., Sept. 14, 2017]—Marc-Etienne Bussieres parlayed an incredible final nine holes at Richmond Country Club into a win at the PGA Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf.

Bussieres closed with a final-round 6-under-par 66, making an eagle and three birdies over the final nine holes to chase down and eventually pass his good friend Sonny Michaud.

Vancouver Golf Tour commissioner Fraser Mulholland chuckled when asked if he had been able to talk Adam Hadwin into defending his Vancouver Open title this weekend at Northview Golf Club. “Not quite,” Mulholland says. “We’re glad to not have him in the field if we can watch him play the Tour Championship for $10 million. It’s just so great for him to be hitting all these milestones.”

Hadwin, a three-time winner of the Vancouver Open -- including last year at Pagoda Ridge in Langley -- will be wrapping up his spectacular PGA TOUR season this weekend at the Tour Championship in Atlanta. Then it’s on to the Presidents Cup, where the Abbotsford native will play for captain Nick Price’s International team.

He wasn’t happy with the way he finished his round, but Kimberley’s Jared du Toit hung on to win Canadian Player of the Year honours on the PGA Tour Canada-Mackenzie Tour circuit.

That award, sponsored by Freedom 55 Financial, carries a hefty $25,000 bonus and du Toit said it helped soothe the frustration he was feeling about ending his round Sunday with three straight bogeys.

Du Toit closed with an even-par 70 to finish the season-ending Freedom 55 Financial Championship in London, Ont., at 10-under par and tied for 17th place. He finished the season 23rd on the money list with $26,233, although he made more than that in unofficial money on Sunday.

[RICHMOND, B.C.]—British Columbia’s fourth-largest city is set to host the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf.

That was the word coming from the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada when they announced they’ve added another stop in Alberta during the 2018 season. The event, which is in addition to already existing stops in Calgary, Edmonton and Fort McMurray, will be held sometime in late June.

Nick Taylor says he will take many positives from his just-concluded 2017 PGA TOUR season and can’t wait until next year. He won’t have to wait long. The 2018 PGA TOUR campaign starts in just over a month at the Safeway Open in Napa, Calif., which goes Oct. 13-16.

Until then, Taylor will enjoy some down time and work on sharpening the one part of his game that he felt at times let him down this past season. That would be his putting. “On the greens I wasn’t great this year putting, so I think that is an area where I can get better,” Taylor said in an interview with British Columbia Golf.

Long a fan favourite on the PGA TOUR, Phil Mickelson, playing in the Dell Technologies Championship at TPC Boston, asked a young fan what he would do in this situation after 'Lefty' had found the left rough off the tee.

The young man, whose name is Riley, offered a quick no-nonsense reply, "If I could hit my 3-wood 260 I would probably go for it." It seems the gallery along with Mickelson, who said, "I like the way you think," felt that was the best strategy and the 3-time Masters Champion loaded up his 3-wood from the rough and let fly.

Following the shot, which appeared to turn out quite well, Mickelson turned to the youngster, smiled and said, "Riley, you can caddy for me anytime."

Four Canadians will be in the field this week at the first Web.com Tour Finals event the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Charity Championship at Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course in Arlington, Ohio. Leading the way with his PGA TOUR card already locked up is Thornhill, Ont., native Ben Silverman.

Silverman is playing the best golf of his professional career with four top-10s in his last four starts – including his first career Web.com Tour win at the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr. Pepper.

He finished the regular season No. 10 on the Web.com Tour Money List securing one of 25 cards available in the regular season and will be jockeying for priority on the PGA TOUR card list during the Finals.

Joining Silverman in Ohio are fellow Canadians Corey Conners (Listowel, Ont.), Roger Sloan (Merritt, B.C.),and Adam Svensson (Surrey, B.C.).

(Sunday, August 27th) OTTAWA – Now that she’s won two LPGA championships, Sung Hyun Park is finally going to get to see the biggest attraction in her home away from home.

Park shot a 7-under 64 to finish at 13-under par to win the CP Women’s Open on Sunday, five weeks after winning the U.S. Women’s Open. Both wins came in her rookie season on the LPGA Tour and she feels it’s time for a rest, so she’s returning to her North American home in Orlando to relax.

“I’ve never been to Disney World. I think I’ve got to go this time,” said Park through a translator. “I have a dog named Ato. It’s been a while since I’ve seen my dog, so I’m planning to play with my dog during my vacation.”

When you see players wearing yellow ribbons at this week’s CP Women’s Open at the Ottawa Golf and Hunt Club, think “DCJ.”

Those are the initials of Dawn Coe-Jones, one of Canada’s most outstanding golfers who died of bone cancer last November at the age of 56. The ribbons are to honour her memory and to remind us all of the toll this terrible disease takes.

Born in Lake Cowichan, B.C., Coe-Jones won the B.C. Junior Championship in 1978 and 1979 and then the B.C. Amateur in 1982. In 1983, she defended her provincial amateur title and capped off the season by winning the Canadian Amateur Championship.

After being named an NCAA All-American at Lamar University in Texas, Coe-Jones headed to the LPGA Tour where she won three times, including the 1995 Tournament of Champions.

The Vancouver Open Charity Pro-Am put on by The Vancouver Golf Tour (VGT) takes place on Wednesday, September 20th at Northview Golf & Country Club in Surrey and they are actively looking for those interested in playing in the tournament and also for additional volunteers.

A tie for second on Sunday by veteran Wes Heffernan of Calgary notwithstanding, it has been a tough year for Canadians on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada circuit.

Eight events into the 12-tournament season, Kimberley’s Jared du Toit is the top Canadian on the Mackenzie Tour’s money list. And he’s 22nd.

That’s right, there’s not a single Canadian inside the top 20. To this point anyway, it’s the worst year for Canadians since the PGA TOUR started running what used to be the Canadian Tour in 2013.

Adam Hadwin doesn’t quite know what to expect, on or off the golf course, as he heads to England for his first Open Championship.“I haven’t been over there, I have never been to Europe, not even to vacation or anything,” Hadwin tells British Columbia Golf. “It is going to be different, but I am looking forward to that challenge.”

Well, for starters, Adam, they drive on the left side of the road over there. Seriously, that figures to be the least of Hadwin’s worries. He is more concerned about the crash course in links golf that will begin when he arrives at Royal Birkdale, site of the July 20-23 Open Championship.

2005 Canadian Open Winner Discusses His Return to British Columbia in an Exclusive Interview

VICTORIA, B.C. (June 29, 2017) – Tournament Organizers have announced that 2005 Canadian Open winner and 1989 Open Championship winner Mark Calcavecchia has committed to playing in the 2017 Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship.

Calcavecchia has won two tournaments in British Columbia on the PGA TOUR; the 1997 Greater Vancouver Open at Northview and the 2005 Canadian Open at Shaughnessy. Calcavecchia also won the 2012 Montreal Championship on PGA TOUR Champions.
