Bad weather forced the cancellation of the third and final round of the 2014 PING CCAA Golf National Championships at the Club de Golf Lorette in Quebec on Friday morning.
That meant the leaders after the second round were declared champions and Camosun Chargers student Jarred Callbeck won the men’s title. Callbeck shot a (-2) round of 70 in his second round Thursday to beat Hugo Bernard of Andre-Laurendeau by one stroke. Grant Maskiewich from Camosun finished in a tie for fourth.
Camosun, led by Bear Mountain and Morningstar teaching professional John Randle, finished second in the team competition, three strokes behind the tournament-best 286 team score recorded by the Holland Hurricanes. Another three strokes behind, finishing in third place, was the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades, led by national coach of the year Chris Bertram.
In the women’s team competition, the St. Lawrence Lions won by 9 strokes over the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades, with the UBC-Okanagan Heat finishing third, two strokes behind UFV.
The women’s individual competition was won by Lorelle Weavers from Niagara College. The top BC woman, tied for third place, was Carolyn Lee from UBC-Okanagan.
