2025 Lamey Cup Underway In Oregon

The 18th PNGA Lamey Cup is being played this week as 48 of the top amateur golfers in the Pacific Northwest region square off from May 1-2 at Oswego Lake Country Club, in Lake Oswego, Ore.

The PNGA Lamey Cup was created in 2006 by past PNGA President Dr. Jack Lamey as a way of continuing the camaraderie and partnership of the region’s member associations under the PNGA umbrella – British Columbia Golf, Idaho Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association and Washington Golf.

The Montana State Golf Association and Alaska Golf Association are new member associations of the PNGA, and will be fielding teams in the competition in future years. With Dr. Lamey’s passing in December 2019, the event and its perpetual trophy have been named after him.

The annual Ryder Cup-style team competition is held on a rotating basis throughout the region, with this year’s event being held in Oregon and hosted by the Oregon Golf Association.

Each association has selected a 12-person team consisting of eight men and four women. The representation includes four mid-amateur men of 25 years of age or older, two men of 40 years or older, two senior men of 55 years or older, two mid-amateur women of 25 years or older and two senior women of 50 years or older.

The current president of each association will serve as the captain of their respective teams. Donna Smoot will captain the host Oregon Golf Association team; Mike Kemppainen will captain the Washington Golf team; Abby Black will captain the Idaho Golf Association team; and Shauna Wilton will captain the team from British Columbia Golf.

The two-day competition includes four-ball and foursome matches the first day and singles matches on the final day. With three matches for each player, the championship allows each competitor to compete against players from each of the other associations. With both men’s and women’s scores used to determine the team result.

Washington Golf will be attempting to win its sixth title in the competition, and second consecutive title, having won last year with the event held at Seattle Golf Club.

British Columbia Golf last won the title at the Home Course in Washington State, defending their title from the previous year in 2013 at Crane Creek Country Club in Boise, Idaho.
