Golf Burnaby Used Disc Golf To Get Maximum Play At Central Park P&P

BURNABY, B.C. (April 16, 2025) - Golf Burnaby’s Central Park pitch-and-putt course closes every winter to give its greens a rest and that got Matt Ewan thinking.
Ewan, the course maintenance supervisor at Central Park and a longtime disc golfer, pitched the idea of opening up the course to disc golfers during the winter to Golf Burnaby managers.
His timing was perfect as the local disc golf community was having discussions with Burnaby’s Parks and Recreation and Culture Committee about finding a spot to play in the city.
The two sides met last summer and less than six months later disc golf was being played at Central Park. Lots of it.
“We opened to rave reviews,” says Peter Sorokovsky,” Golf Burnaby’s manager of golf course operations.
“In our first month we were the 11th most played disc golf course in the world. It was incredible for January. And that’s competing against places down south where it’s a lot warmer. It was well supported.”
Ewan helped design the disc course layout along with some other fellow players. The routing generally follows the layout of the Central Park pitch-and-putt, but the greens are considered out of bounds. That helps them open the regular golf season in great shape.
Disc golfers play a nominal $6 fee to play. “I believe it is the first pay-for-play disc course,” says Sorokovsky. “So we’re excited about supporting that community and their desire to play disc golf in Burnaby.”
