SECHELT, B.C. (August 21, 2024) - She is still only 12 years old, but West Vancouver’s Jenny Guo is playing like a seasoned veteran.
Guo fired a bogey-free, six-under 66 in Wednesday’s second round and has a seven-shot lead heading into the final round of the B.C. Juvenile Girls Championship at Blue Ocean Golf Club.
Guo sits at seven-under par through two rounds of the championship for players aged 16 and younger. Vancouver’s Olina Ziqian Liang is alone in second spot at even-par after shooting an impressive five-under 67 in the second round. Charlotte Tam of Burnaby and Joanna Kim of Langley are tied for third at six-over par.
The race is much tighter in the Juvenile Boys’ division, where Tim Hachey of Osoyoos holds a one-shot lead. The 16-year-old Hachey shot an even-par 72 in the second round and sits at four-under through 36 holes.
Kelowna’s Finley Dober and DJ Crowe of Armstrong share second spot at three-under par. Dober moved up 16 spots on the leaderboard with a six-under 66 in the second round. Crowe shot a one-under 71.
The 21-player girls’ field was cut to the top 11 and ties for the final round. The cut fell at 15-over par. The 60-player boys’s field was reduced to the top 30 and ties. It took a score of 12-over or better to make the cut.
CHIP SHOTS: A 36-hole Zone competition was won by the Zone 2 team of Hachey, Crowe and Joshua Laverdiere of Kelowna with a score of seven-under par. That was two shots better than the Zone 4 team of Guo, Preston Proudfoot of Squamish and Aidan Liu of Richmond.
