Bowen Island Golf Association (BIGA) operates a public golf course located on Bowen Island, BC. A 20 minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, the course offers an ideal day trip from Vancouver.
Established in 2006 the course features 9 holes playing 3,000 yards, with clubhouse facilities, spectacular views of Howe Sound and a delicious lunch and dinner menu.
The club offers its members and the public a family-orientated playing experience inclusive of all ages, skill levels and those looking for a quiet, stress-free playing experience.

Operation Manager Overview
Reporting to the Board of Directors the Operations Manager (OM) plays a pivotal role in shaping the member experience and overseeing all club operations. As a highly visible and interactive leader you will be responsible for all activities including communication with members, guests, employees, community, municipal government and the golf industry. Working collaboratively with the Board you will develop and implement policies and procedures that support the longterm success of the club. You will lead the employee group promoting a positive, engaging and superior service culture. A solid understanding of the club finances including financial statements, cost control, cash flow, capital spending and insurance will help ensure the club continues to deliver an affordable high quality golf experience.
Position Summary
- Full-time year-round employment
- Evening and weekend work during peak season and special events
- Work hours ebb and flow with the demands of the position
- Expected day-to-day presence in the ProShop or TK Center

Member and Guest Experience
- Build a strong relationship with the membership promoting a caring and open communication flow
- Actively seek to widen the membership and playing public through innovative marketing, recruitment and retention strategies
- Respond to member and guest concerns in a timely professional manner
- Visible presence at member events and day-to-day operations
Team Building and Leadership
- Build a strong team addressing peak season demands and slower off-season periods
- Drive new ideas and initiatives that enhance the playing experience and club operations
- Set clear goals, motivate the team, and measure progress ensuring achievement of clearly communicated objectives
TK Centre of Excellence
- Facility includes Trackman simulator, 4 launch monitors, chipping and putting greens, and professionally available lessons
- Develop programs that stimulate facility use and ensure the financial success of the centre
Golf Canada and 1st Tee Program
- Knowledge of the programs and offerings available through these organizations
- Actively seek out, apply and qualify for programs offering financial support
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- Strong relationship builder fostering trust, problem solving and consensus
- Knowledgeable with human resource management and relevant legislation (BC Employment Standards, BC Liquor Control and Licensing Act, Freedom of Information and Privacy Act)
- Develop and mentor staff addressing any skill gaps through training
- Outstanding abilities in written, verbal, and interpersonal communications
- Provide guidance in maintaining strong inventory control over ProShop retail merchandise and restaurant liquor
- Continue to build the Junior club program
- A working knowledge of social media trends and best practices on how to optimize the club’s digital footprint
- Proven ability to learn various software packages that are used to run a retail golf environment
Desired Qualifications
- A passion for working in a club environment in a public facing position
- Previous experience in the golf industry or other sports and leisure companies would be an asset but not a requirement
- A team player who can work independently
- Experience in creating a welcoming, fun, casual and safe work environment
- Demonstrated ability to hire, train, retain and engage with staff and team members
- Leadership and/or management experience in a service orientated club environment
- Experience in implementing a successful Food & Beverage operation addressing staffing, standards, consistency, policies/procedures and member/guest experience
Compensation and benefits
The successful candidate will receive an attractive compensation package commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Salary range - $70K - $85K based on experience
