GOLDEN, B.C. (July 17, 2024) - Wyatt Brook is what you would call a Mid-Amateur rookie and he’s making quite the splash at his debut event.
The 25-year-old Heffley Creek resident fired a four-under 68 in the second round and has a six-shot lead heading into Thursday’s final round of the B.C. Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Golden Golf Club.
Brook, who is seven-under par through 36 holes, had six birdies in his second round. He opened the 54-hole event with a three-under 69. The Mid-Amateur is open to players aged 25 and older and Brook arrived at the event fresh off a third-place finish at the recent B.C. Amateur Championship at Ledgeview Golf Club.
The only other player under par is Stephen Connor of Chilliwack. He fired a two-under 70 in the second round to sit at one-under through 36 holes.
Two players — Alex Cartwright of Victoria and Matthew Cavelti of North Vancouver — are tied for third at even-par. Calveti shot a one-under 71 in the second round, while Cartwright fired a 73.
A Mid-Master championship for players aged 40 and older is being held concurrently at Golden. Neil MacLeod of Burnaby leads that competition at two-over par, one shot better than Gordon Fisher of Summerland, Edward Bellrose of Campbell River and Steve Wheeler of Whistler.
The top three Mid-Amateur finishers after Thursday’s final round will represent British Columbia in the inter-provincial team competition at the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, which goes Aug. 20-23 at Carleton Golf & Yacht Club in Manotick, Ont.
