SUN PEAKS RESORT — Shelly Stouffer will take a four-shot lead into the final round as she attempts to win her fifth straight B.C. Senior Women’s Championship.
Stouffer fired the low round of the tournament — a one-over 74 — on Wednesday and the Nanoose Bay resident sits four-over par through two rounds of the 54-hole event at Sun Peaks Golf Course.
There really is only one player with a realistic chance of catching Stouffer. That would be fellow B.C. Golf Hall of Fame member Jackie Little of Procter.
Little shot a five-over 78 in her second round to sit at eight-over par. Denise Walker of Victoria is the next closest pursuer at 15-over par. Stouffer had two bogeys and one birdie in her round. One of those bogeys came on the par 4 first hole, which she double-bogeyed in the first round.
A field of 70 players are competing in the tournament. Three separate championships are being contested at Sun Peaks, which is playing host to its first British Columbia Golf championship event. The Senior event is open to players 50 and over. The Super-Senior category is open to players 60 and older, while the Super Super Senior division is for players 70 and over.
Little, a winner of multiple British Columbia Golf and Canadian championships, leads the Super Senior Division by 10 shots over Holly Horwood of Vancouver. Horwood leads the Super Super Senior division by five shots over Phyllis Laschuk of Vancouver.
The Zone 6 team of Stouffer and Josee Deslauriers of Parksville won the 36-hole Zone competition by 22 shots over the Zone 1 team of Little and Leslie Weaver of Cranbrook.
