Team BC Looking For 7th Consecutive NPJLTM Title
Team BC Practices Prior To The 2023 North Pacific Junior Ladies Team Matches
This year will be the 36th edition of the North Pacific Junior Ladies Team Matches (NPJLTM) and represents an opportunity for BC to win their 7th consecutive event, equalling a record set many years ago by the Washington Golf Association.
The competition had been cancelled for 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Team BC having won the previous five events played, from 2016 - 2019 and 2022, 2023.
The Oregon Golf Association will be playing host this year as the tournament is being held at Emerald Valley Golf Course in Creswell, Oregon.
The event is patterned after the Curtis Cup Matches for amateur women (which stimulates friendly rivalry for women golfers from the United States, Great Britain and Ireland).
In 1997, the NPJLT matches were expanded to include Oregon and Alberta, making it a four-association, six girls on each team, competition. Over the years the teams have changed and in 2015 Team Idaho was included, however they will not be entering a team this year so it will be a duel between British Columbia, Washington and Oregon.
The NPJLTM have changed their format for 2024, as this year the teams will be competing in stroke play in a collegiate style format, taking the best 4 of 6 scores. In the past, the competition was a match play event with the front nine worth one point, the back nine one point and the overall 18 another point.
There will also be a low individual award and recognition going forward for AJGA stars and Jr. Golf Scoreboard rankings.
British Columbia has three returning athletes this year: Chelsea Truong, Cadence Ko and Elsa Wu who will welcome three new players to the team in, Jenny Kwon, Kaylee Chun and Mandy Wang.
