OLIVER -- Langley’s Amy Lee already has one provincial title and she put herself in strong position to challenge for another in Tuesday’s first round of the B.C. Junior Girls Championship at Nk’Mip Canyon Desert Golf Course in Oliver.
The 14-year-old Lee had seven birdies en route to a four-under 69 that gave her a three-shot lead on Victoria’s Chelsea Truong.
Lee, who plays out of Redwoods Golf Course in Langley and just finished Grade 8 at Walnut Grove Secondary, won the B.C. Bantam Girls Championship last summer at Langara Golf Course.
Three players -- Martina Yu of Coquitlam, Erin Lee of Langley and Tina Jiang of Richmond -- are tied for third at even par.
The B.C. Junior Boys Championship is also being contested at Nk’Mip and Nanaimo’s Matthew Wilson had the clubhouse lead with many players still on the course. Play was suspended for over an hour in the early afternoon due to lightning in the area.
