From The Fairway: Victoria GC Names Bernakevitch As New Head Pro
Lindsay Bernakevitch has been named the Victoria Golf Club’s 10th head professional in its 120-year history.
Bernakevitch had been serving as associate professional at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.
Chair Valerie Fitzpatrick said the club received over 85 qualified resumes from around the world, but “it was Lindsay, the local choice, who showed the most playing and teaching ability and was the only one currently working in a private club environment very similar to ours.
“We believe he will bring a youthful vision to all areas of our diverse membership, to all ages and playing abilities,” said Fitzpatrick.
Bernakevitch is currently ranked eighth in PGA of Canada national rankings and has 25 professional victories. In September, he lost a playoff to Billy Walsh of Markham, Ont., at the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada in his home province of Saskatchewan.
“Lindsay was the successful candidate after going through a lengthy selection process that involved more than 80 applicants, from across the world,” said Shaughnessy director of golf Alan Palmer.
“Shaughnessy and the members should be very proud in playing a large role in Lindsay’s development. We are all very proud and excited for Lindsay, his wife Jill and their two kids, Luke and Kate,” added Palmer.
Bernakevitch will begin on Jan. 1 as Mike Parker becomes Head Pro Emeritus.
