The largest sporting event held on Vancouver Island will see golf fans from across Canada watch PGA TOUR Champions legends, including 2016 Defending Champion Colin Montgomerie, compete this fall in the 2017 edition of the tournament.
And there is no shortage of interest from other PGA TOUR Champions players: “It was a great experience. It’s a beautiful place. I think it’s a great golf course. We enjoyed our time in Victoria very much, and I’m looking forward to going back,” said Miguel Angel Jimenez, who finished T3 at the 2016 Pacific Links Championship and won this past week in a playoff at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic.
Scott McCarron - runner up at the 2016 Pacific Links Championship - commented: “I love being up in Victoria. My mom is from near there, up in Kaslo, Canada, so we had some relatives come over and watch us play. Bear Mountain is a beautiful resort and a great golf course – I just love being up in the mountains. It’s one of my favorite places we played last year.”
Jeff Sluman agreed stating: “I thoroughly enjoyed the golf course, and fortunately played well. The crowds were terrific, and Victoria was one of the most beautiful, breathtaking places I’ve ever been in my life. I just really can’t wait to get back there and play it, see it again, and experience it a bit more. I was really overwhelmed with the whole event, and the surrounding area. I had never been to Victoria, and it won’t be the last time I’m there. I thought that much of it. I said, ‘If we didn’t have a place in Chicago, and wanted to spend the summer for three or four months someplace, this would be an ideal spot.’”
“It’s an absolutely beautiful place,” said Olin Browne. “The golf course was in very good condition. It was spectacular to go up there, Dan Matthews was a great host, and I thought the volunteers and everybody did a tremendous job with the golf course. It was a treat to be invited to go up there and play, and I’m looking forward to going back.”
You can also spot some of the golf stars that played in the 2016 event at the Masters this week, including Bernhard Langer, Larry Mize, Mark O'Meara, Vijay Singh, and Ian Woosnam.
The event will once again be played at The Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa the week of Monday, September 11th – Sunday, September 17th, 2017. Tournament week will commence with Official Pro-Am’s on Wednesday and Thursday, where participating teams will play alongside a PGA TOUR Champions professional over 18 holes of premiere golf. Competitive action will follow with 54 holes of championship play from Friday to Sunday, with no cut.
