Weekly Top-10 Rankings - Hadwin Eyes World Top 50 Spot

It was a big week for players from BC in the Canadian Weekly Top-10 rankings and in particular for Abbotsford's Adam Hadwin followin his dramatic first career PGA TOUR victory at the Valspar Championship in Florida. Hadwin's triumph has now only one place back of occupying a top 50 world ranking among male professionals. 

Other notable names from BC such as Kimberley's Jared du Toit (no. 1 Male Amateur) and Victoria's Naomi Ko (no. 2 Female Amateur) continue to occupy lofty positions in our national rankings.

MEN’S TOP 10

Adam Hadwin became a PGA TOUR winner for the first time, winning the Valspar Championship. The victory saw Hadwin climb 47 places in the world rankings, leaving him at No. 51. The Abbotsford, B.C. golfer joins fellow Canadian Mackenzie Hughes as winners in this calendar year and became just the second player to win on the PGA TOUR, the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada, and the Web.com Tour. Of more importance to Hadwin, he will join Mike Weir and Hughes at Augusta next month for The Masters. Hadwin missed out on winning his first PGA tournament earlier this year when he finished runner-up at the CareerBuilder Challenge after becoming only the eighth player in Tour history to shoot 59.

Graham DeLaet continued his strong play of late, finishing in a tie for 22nd at the Valspar Championship. It helped the No. 3 ranked player in Canada climb three places in the world rankings and was worth 2.69 world ranking points, his fourth straight points-playing tournament finish.

Next to Hadwin, former Canadian No. 1 David Hearn made the biggest gain among the top 10, picking up seven spots in the world rankings after finishing tied for 18th at the Valspar Championship. It was his first top 20 result of the PGA season and was worth 3.48 world ranking points.

Other notable results: No. 5 Nick Taylor finished tied 62nd at PGA TOUR Valspar Championship; No. 9 Austin Connelly missed the cut at the Asian Tour/European Tour Hero India Open;

WOMEN’S TOP 10

Brittany Marchand made the biggest gain among the Top-10, picking up 29 places in the world rankings. The No. 8 ranked Canadian pro now finds herself at No. 534 in the world.

Anne-Catherine Tanguay picked up seven spots in the world rankings and moved up to No. 4 in the Canadian rankings, climbing past Augusta James.

MEN’S AMATEUR TOP 10

Top ranked Canadian Jared du Toit of Kimberley, BC maintained his No. 14 world ranking after finishing in a tie for third at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, coming up one stroke shy of his third win of the season. It was his sixth top-10 finish of the season and the 11th of his career. The Golf Canada National Squad member also notched a hole-in-one at the tournament..

Vancouver's Stuart Macdonald moves back into the Top-10, picking up seven places in the world rankings to settle in at No. 9 in Canada.

Arizona State senior Ki Taek Lee slips out of the Top-10, moving Blair Bursey up to No. 8 in the Canadian rankings.

Josh Whalen, the No. 10 ranked Canadian from Napanee, Ont., recorded his fourth top-20 result of the season, finishing in a tie for 19th at the General Hackler Championship.

Biggest move: Kaleb Gorbahn gained 637 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for second at the Jackrabbit Invitational. It was his second runner-up finish for the junior at the University of Nevada who also recorded a career-low 64 in the second round.

WOMEN’S AMATEUR TOP 10

Valerie Tanguay climbed 19 places in the world rankings, vaulting past two players and into No. 8 in the Canadian rankings after finishing tied for 16th at the Mountain View Collegiate. It was her third top-20 result of the season.

Vanessa Ha made the second biggest gain of the week, picking up nine places after finishing in a tie for 21st at the Meadow Club Women’s Intercollegiate.

Grace St-Germain moved up four places in the world rankings after finishing tied for 14th at the UNF Collegiate. It was her fifth top-15 result of the season for the freshman at Daytona State.

Biggest Move: Alyssa Getty gained 173 spots in the world rankings after finishing tied for 8th at the Battle at Boulder Creek II. The former Top-10 player is currently the No. 15 ranked in Canada.
