Lovan Stars For SFU Clan On Final Day Of Stockton Cactus Thaw

Stockton, CA – The final round of the Stockton Cactus Thaw saw freshman Sy Lovan turn in one of his best performances as a member of the SFU Clan men's golf team, as the Clan ended the two-day competition in a tied for 19th overall. After posting a an 11-over-par 299 yesterday, SFU finished with a six-over-par 294 on day two, totalling 593 strokes over the two rounds.
The Cal Baptist Lancers surged to the head of the pack on day two with a round of 278, overtaking the Dominican Penguins (eighth - 573) and outlasting the hard-charging BYU-Hawaii Seasiders (second - 565) to take the title with a combined 12-under-par 564 over both days.
Lovan, after posting an even-par round of 72 in round one, hit another level on day two. The rookie dropped a career-best three-under-par 69, a round that not only featured five total birdies, but included one on the notorious par-five 10th hole, a 576-yarder. Lovan ended the competition as part of a 12-way tie for 13th, a jam that also included Chris Crisologo.
Crisologo shot an even-par round of 72 on the tournament's second day, falling from the fifth-overall standing that he earned after a three-under-par 69 in the first round. Both Crisologo and Lovan trailed Cal Baptist's Greg Gonzalez by five strokes, as he topped the leaderboard with an eight-under-par 136 over two days.
Kevin Vigna finished with a six-over-par 78 on day two, identical to his round one score. Tony Ko was nearly in the same boat, ending the second day with a seven-over-par 79 compared to his eight-over-par 80 from yesterday. Scott Kerr was the Clan's biggest riser on the second day, posting a three-over-par 75, a remarkable 11 strokes less than his 14-over-par 86 from day one.

The Clan will now have about three weeks to prepare for the Notre Dame de Namur Invitational, which will run in Livermore, CA from March 6-7.
