2016 Special Olympics North America Golf Championship Includes BC's Kyle Grummett

More than 200 golfers from across the United States and Canada will converge on Port St. Lucie, FL for the 2016 Special Olympics North America Golf Championship, hosted at the prestigoius and beautiful PGA Golf Club, using the Ryder and Wannamaker Courses.

One of those golfers is West Kelowna, BC's Kyle Grummett who has a Bronze medal from the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles along with the Gold medal he picked up in the 2014 Special Olympic Summer Games held in Vancouver.

Grummett was also nominated by British Columbia Golf for a 2016 Sport BC Athlete of the Year award for an athlete with a disability.

The Opening Ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 29th with the competition kicking off on Friday, September 30 and final rounds concluding on Sunday, October 2.  Medals will be presented after conclusion of final round.

All competition, as well as medal ceremonies, will take place at PGA Club Port St. Lucie, Florida.

There are five levels of competition which are based on skill level:

  • Level I: Individual Skills Contest (10:30am shotgun start daily)
  • Level II: Unified Sports Alternate Shot 9-hole Team Play (9:30am shotgun start daily)
  • Level III: Unified Sports Alternate Shot 18-hole Team Play (8:30am shotgun start daily)
  • Level IV: Individual Stroke 9-hole Competition (9:30am shotgun start daily)
  • Level V: Individual Stroke 18-hole Competition (8:30am shotgun start)
