Chambers Bay to Host 2017 Pacific Coast Amateur
Site of the 2010 U.S. Amateur and 2015 U.S. Open, Chambers Bay welcomes the prestigious Pacific Coast Amateur Championship as the second consecutive Seattle-area venue to fit into Championship’s rotation.
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Washington — Chambers Bay Golf Course, a 7,165-yard par-72 championship venue sitting along the shores of Puget Sound in the shadow of the Olympic Mountains, will see the world’s most accomplished amateur golfers travel to the Pacific Northwest for the second consecutive year as host of the 51st installment of the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship in 2017.
Set to take place July 25-29 2017, the University Place links-style layout will show it’s versatility after proving to be a difficult test of golf for the world’s most accomplished professionals in last year’s U.S. Open.
“It is our privilege to serve as the site of the 51st Pacific Coast Amateur,” stated Matt Allen, general manager of Chambers Bay.
“We look forward to helping display the raw ability of amateur golf on the West Coast and beyond while remaining confident that Chambers Bay will do its part in identifying the best player as Champion.”
Routinely attracting players from around the world with résumés boasting illustrious victories in other jewel amateur golf events, the Pacific Coast Amateur remains the West Coast’s elite level event that is circled on all amateur golf calendars in North America and around the globe.
Much of the recent success of the event can be directly attributed to the quality of the venue, a reality not quickly lost on Pacific Coast Golf Association President and Tacoma resident John Gazecki.
“The amateur golf game has changed immensely over the first 50 years of our event’s history. The quality of our field and our ability to continuously recruit the game’s best amateurs is directly attributed to the reputation and quality of the venue selected to host,” stated Gazecki.
“Chambers Bay has already thrived on the world stage with the 2010 U.S. Amateur and the 2015 U.S. Open. We would be hard-pressed to find an amateur golfer who wouldn’t want to challenge Chambers Bay in an elite-level event setting. We couldn’t be more excited for that to happen at the Pacific Coast Amateur next year.”
Past host sites for the event include Eugene Country Club last year, host site of the 2016 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship as well as the Olympic Club, Los Angeles Country Club, Bandon Dunes and Martis Camp to name a few.
This announcement comes on the heels of another monumental announcement for the Pierce County-owned property, as earlier today the USGA announced the 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship will be visiting the grounds that once housed a paper and gravel mill.
“It has been a very humbling day for Chambers Bay to be selected as host for two such prominent amateur golf events,” Allen said. “Our entire team cannot be more excited about the future for Chambers Bay.”
The 50th Pacific Coast Amateur is set to begin next Tuesday, July 26 at the Seattle Golf Club where admission for viewing is free of charge.
