Calgary’s Jaclyn Lee Moves Up to No. 7 on Amateur Rankings

Golf Canada National Team member Jaclyn Lee climbed 135 spots in the world rankings and moved up to No. 7 in Canada after finishing in a tie for ninth at the Westbrook Invitational. It was the first career Top-10 result for the freshman out of Calgary.

Jessica Ip, who slipped behind Lee this week in the Canadian rankings, finished in a tie for 23rd at the Westbrook tournament.

Katherine Gravel-Coursol moves into the Top-20 for the first time with a 67-place gain in the world rankings, settling in at No. 14. The junior from Mirabel, Que., who plays collegiate golf at Kansas State, finished eighth at the Westbrook Invitational. She shot a career-best 54-hole score of 213, which tied for the fifth-lowest total in school history. It was also her second career Top-10 finish.

Another newcomer to the Top-20 this week is Celeste Dao, the 2015 Quebec Girls’ Provincial Junior Champion.

Biggest Move: Alix Kong climbed 347 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for 63rd at the Westbrook Invitational. The sophomore from West Vancouver, who plays her collegiate golf at Indiana, posted her lowest career round score on the final day of the tournament (70) to equal her career-best tournament score of 225.

It was a quiet week for the amateur men with only No.1 Blair Hamilton, No. 2 Jared du Toit and No. 4 Austin James making minor gains inside the Top-10.

Brian Jung, meanwhile, takes over the No. 20 spot in the Canadian rankings.

Biggest move: Evan deGrazia moved up 332 spots in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for third at the Newberry College Invitational. It was the second Top-10 result of the year in five tournaments for the junior from Thunder Bay, Ont., who plays his collegiate golf at Newberry College in South Carolina.

Brooke Henderson added her third straight Top-10 finish to her early season results – a tie for eighth at the Ladies Masters event in Australia. Despite the finish, the 18-year-old slipped a spot in the world rankings to No. 12 after both Amy Yang and In Gee Chun moved past her with their Top-3 finishes at the LPGA event in Thailand.

Other Notable Results: No. 9 Lorie Kane missed the cut at the Australian Tour’s Ladies Masters event.

Richard T Lee was the only golfer in the Top-10 to make some positive gains this week. The Toronto golfer climbed 12 spots in the world rankings after finishing tied for 22nd at the Asian Tour/European Tour Perth International event. The result was good for 1.27 world ranking points for the No. 5 ranked pro in Canada.

Despite losing some ground in the overall world rankings, Adam Svensson moved up one spot to No. 8 in Canada, moving past fellow B.C. golfer Eugene Wong.

Corey Conners vaulted into the Top-20 with a third place result at the Latinoamérica Tour’s Colombia Open. The Team Canada Young Pro Squad member held the lead after an opening-round course record 63. Despite struggling in the final round, the native of Listowel, Ont., managed to hang on for his first Top-10 result of the season while equalling his best career result on the South American-based tour. It resulted in a 238-place climb in the world rankings which leaves him at No. 16 in Canada.

Mike Weir slipped out of the Top-20 in Canada, currently sitting at No. 21. The 1993 Masters champion is now No. 887 in the world rankings. Weir missed the cut at the Honda Classic, the fourth straight time in as many tournaments this year that he has failed to play the weekend. Going back to the 2014 Frys.com Open, Weir has missed the cut or withdrawn in each of the last 20 tournaments.

Other notable results: No. 1 David Hearn and No. 3 Adam Hadwin both missed the cut at the PGA’s Honda Classic. It Hearn’s second straight missed cut in as many weeks, while it was Hadwin’s first missed cut of the season. No. 2 Graham DeLaet finished in a tie for 53rd at the Honda Classic, his first world ranking points in five weeks.
