BURNABY, BC – Simon Fraser University golf coach John Buchanan announced today that Jaya Rampuri of Coquitlam has signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period to compete for the Clan women's golf program.
"SFU has always been one of the top universities on my list," said Rampuri. "It has an excellent academic reputation, and I am interested in attending the Beedie School of Business."
Rampuri, two-time Vancouver Golf Club (VGC) player of the year, attends Dr. Charles Best Secondary where she is an honour roll student. Rampuri is the youngest girl to win the VGC Ladies Club Championship, which she accomplished in grade 10, and again in grade 11. She also captured the VGC Junior Girls Club Championship both years.
"Attending SFU makes me feel like I'm at home since we both share Vancouver Golf Club as our home course," said Rampuri. "I've come to know many players from the SFU golf team, and feel that I would fit right in. The women's program is developing and I am very excited to help the program to build success in the future."
Rampuri is one of this province's top young female golfers. Earlier this year, in her first CN Future Links tournament, one of Canada's leading junior golf development programs, Rampuri placed fourth. She was 36th nationally in her first Canadian Junior Girls Championship tournament.
As a grade 10 student, Rampuri took medalist honours and led Charles Best to the Fraser Valley Junior Championship.
Rampuri is the second Lower Mainland student to commit to the women's golf program during the early signing period. Earlier this year, Buchanan inked Bethany Ma of Surrey, captain of the Pacific Academy Senior Golf Team.
