Fresh off the disappointment of missing only his second cut in 49 BC Amateur tournaments, Marine Drive’s Doug Roxburgh will be trying to win his third consecutive BC Senior Men’s Championship at Swan-e-Set Bay Resort & Country Club from July 27-30.
Gudmund Lindbjerg of Pitt Meadows GC will be trying to defend his Super Senior title at a course very close to home.
The BC Senior Men's Championship is open to male players aged 55 and older. The Super-Senior Championship is open to players aged 65 and older. The maximum field size is 156 players.
Each Championship is 54-hole gross stroke play. The field will be cut to low 70 and ties (based on a field of 156 players) after 36 holes, with a minimum of five players from the Super Senior field making the cut. Players will be competing in all events in which they are age eligible.
There is also a Best-Ball competition where players may make up their own 2-man teams from the field. Teams wishing to participate must identify themselves before play begins on day one.
This championship is a best-ball conducted over 54 holes. The top 5 teams from the first 36 holes will be confirmed into the draw, regardless of whether the players are in the top 70 or not.
The Zone Team Championship is held concurrently with the first and second rounds of the Championship. Four-person Zone teams are named by each zone prior to the start of the tournament. The zone team competition uses the low 3 of 4 scores each day.
Roxburgh and Lindbjerg will tee off with Nanaimo’s Sandy Harper at 1 p.m. off the 10th tee during Round 1 in what is the marquee grouping of the tournament.
British Columbia has a total of 27 quotas to the Canadian Senior Men's Championship to be contested at Desert Blume G & CC in Medicine Hat, AB beginning September 1st. Quotas will be provided to the top 16 and ties.
Two spots will be used for Super-Senior (age 70+) and may be issued within these 16 or separately. The balance will be issued at the discretion of the selection committee.
Swan-e-Set Bay Resort & Country Club has two 18-hole courses, both designed by PGA TOUR legend Lee Trevino. The BC Senior Men’s Championship will be contested on the Resort Course, which weaves through the tranquil, picturesque Pitt River Valley, challenging and welcoming golfers of all skill and experience levels.
A luxurious, 65,000-square foot clubhouse is also part of the Swan-e-Set Bay Resort & Country Club.
Practice rounds will be on Monday, July 27, with the tournament starting at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28. For more information, including tee times, please click here
