The matching outfits were hard to miss. While British Columbia golfers Naomi Ko, Alisha Lau and Michelle Kim prominently represent the province on Team Canada’s Development Squad, they were joined by a fourth member of the team in Duncan.

Calgary’s Jaclyn Lee, who picked up the sport at Two Eagles in West Kelowna when she was 12, is also a member of Team Canada and decided to play the British Columbia Amateur instead of the Alberta Junior Championships.

Lee would finish T7 at Duncan Meadows, but she was nursing a sore right wrist, which she had on ice most of the week.  “I wanted to come out and play the BC Women’s Amateur because it’s a stronger field and I wanted to test myself against my teammates,” said Lee. “My wrist is starting to feel better, but I think I’ll need to give it some rest.”

Lee, who’s earned a golf scholarship to the Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, was happy to see Kim win the title, but that also meant Lee knows her game needs some work to match the results her teammate is achieving.

“We love being part of the same team and learning from each other,” said Lee, who’s joined by Grace St-Germain as the other Alberta golfer on the Development Team. “When you see one of your teammates do well, you want the same for yourself.”

Lee, who prides herself on a silky short game and a cool on-course demeanour, always seems to have a smile on her face. “I’m having so much fun out here,” said Lee. “There’s definitely a friendly competition, but for me, it’s a chance to catch up with the girls and challenge myself. When I can play different competitions against different and stronger players, I think that’s what will make me a better player.”

Lee is no stranger to the winner’s circle as she won back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2014 at the Alberta Junior Girls and the CN Future Links Prairie Championship. She added the 2014 Alberta Women’s Amateur to her list of accolades and is planning to defend that championship later this summer.

“I want to play the Canadian Amateur, the Canadian Junior and the Alberta Amateur,” said the 18-year-old who also has another important date circled on her calendar.

“I’m moving to Ohio for school on Aug. 16,” said the Glencoe Golf & Country Club member. “I’m excited. I know there’s a lot more responsibility, but I’ve been looking forward to going to university for some time."
