UBC Men’s Thunderbirds Tie For Eighth At NAIA Tournament

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The UBC Thunderbirds finished in a tie for eighth at the 64th NAIA Men's Golf National Championship, which concluded Friday in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The team recorded a 3-over par 291 to finish at 19-over 1191 (295-297-288-291). UBC – which teed off from the tenth hole – moved up two spots with its performance on Friday on the par-72, 6,947-yard Hills Course at LPGA International.
Senior Scott Secord (Calgary) finished as the top Thunderbird, tying for 13th at 2-over 290 (74-73-71-72). He shot an even-par 72 on Friday, getting birdies on the 11th, 12th, 14th, 17th and fifth holes. Secord also had three bogies and a double.
Evan Holmes (Calgary) was a shot behind Secord in a tie for 18th at 291 (73-71-73-74). He went 2-over in the final round, with three birdies (on No. 11, 14 and 18), three bogeys (on No. 3, 6 and 9) and a double bogey (on No. 7).
Jack Wood (Banff, Alta.) capped off his tournament with a 1-under 71. He was 2-under after three holes after recording birdies on No. 11 and 12. He added birdies on No. 2 and 8 but had bogeys on No. 17, 1 and 3. Wood tied for 35th overall with a score of 5-over 293 (73-77-72-71).
Conner Kozak (Vernon, B.C.) and Trent Abraham (Hamilton, Ont.) tied for 66th at 14-over 302.
Abraham (78-76-74-74) shot his second straight round of 2-over 74, with birdies on No. 13 and 16 and bogeys on No. 11, 2, 3 and 4.
Kozak (75-79-72-76) was 4-over on Friday, with four birdies (on No. 10, 15, 1 and 2), five bogeys (No. 12, 18, 5, 6, 7 and 8) and one triple bogey (No. 4).
UBC will conclude the 2014-15 season week at the Golf Canada Canadian University/College Championship in Guelph, Ont., which runs May 26-29.
