Las Sendas: A Phoenix Rising

The rebirth of the Las Sendas Golf Club is complete. Now in the 5th year of ownership, the primarily Canadian consortium of Lloyd & Wayne McBean along with partners Ken Elias, Ian Warrack and John Musil, (American) fulfilled their goal of constructing the additional amenities needed in order to be considered a “world class” golf facility.

The list of improvements costing more than 10 million dollars is long and includes a newly renovated and expanded clubhouse and patio, featuring 3 unique restaurant operations and a new state of the art kitchen to service the very popular dining facilities.

The group did not stop there, adding a 13,000 sq. ft. banquet facility called the Vistas Pavilion. This facility can accommodate tournaments, conferences, weddings or any other party with space available for groups up to 400. The monumental Vistas Pavilion was constructed high on the peaks of the golf course property showcasing the awesome vistas of the Phoenix valley, Camelback and entire west facing skyline.

With the golf course only partially complete cart paths were poured on all 18 holes of the desert floor; sewer and water including electricity were brought onto the golf course in order to complete construction of the air conditioned comfort station and newly constructed Oasis Snack Bar located between the 3rd hole and the 14th tee.

Another new building was constructed to house the Pro Shop, located next to the clubhouse offering private locker rooms for the growing membership. You will also find a halfway house and public restroom, conveniently located next to the 10th tee box.

The practice facilities were improved and a teaching area constructed for The Las Sendas Golf Academy now headed up by PGA National Teacher of the Year, Mike Malaska. New club storage facilities, shoe shine room and a cart fleet, complete the long list of improvements which now make Las Sendas truly a “world class” facility.

The restaurants are unique in every way. The Grille at Las Sendas, is a comfortable sports lounge offering a wide array of menu items from breakfast to dinner. More than a dozen hi-def. televisions broadcast all major sporting events including NFL Ticket. The Patio at Las Sendas offers live entertainment 6 nights each week and boasts some of the best views in the valley.

You can book your reservation on Open Table. The ownership group also added Bogey’s Member’s Lounge, a private dining room for the growing membership. This room is dedicated to the membership of Las Sendas and plays an integral part of the club’s atmosphere, allowing members to hold their weekly functions and activities without interruption from the other restaurant operations.

The Las Sendas restaurants offer unique experiences in every way. You will find a vibrant atmosphere with customers flocking to the facilities each and every evening to enjoy the breathtaking sunset views, live entertainment and culinary expertise not commonly found at a golf facility.

In 2012 Las Sendas was selected “Best Golf Course in Phoenix” by New Times Magazine and in 2013 won “Best Golf Course East Valley”, by the residents of the East Valley and presented by the East Valley Tribune.

Las Sendas is the proud host of the Alice Cooper, Solid Rock Pro Am, The Coyotes Golf Tournament and the 2014 Canadian PGA Club Professional’s Championship. Las Sendas also hosts more than 21 events annually which include Live Theatre, Musical Productions, and Theme Night Events.

Memberships are available at this time and are 100% refundable and there is no waiting list to exit. The club carries no mortgage and promises to keep the golf course from being leveraged. This certainly provides promise of longevity in the always challenging golf industry.

Even before the renovation, Las Sendas was acclaimed by avid golfers and sports writers. It was ranked the 10th most challenging and one of the top 100 courses in the nation according to two ZAGAT Surveys. The land where Las Sendas is located also has some Wild West history. It was owned by Tom Mix, silent film star, in the late 1930’s. He and John Wayne used to ride horses in these hills.

Las Sendas means “The Pathways”, which is what you will feel like you are playing, pathways thru the pristine desert. Las Sendas Golf Club was Robert Trent Jones’s first Arizona project and proved to be more than an average desert course. It's a tribute to how well a golf course design can work with the natural desert. The design of a skill challenging course and the preservation of the desert world exist in harmony.

Put Las Sendas at the top of your must play list next time you plan a trip to the Phoenix area.

Las Sendas Golf Club is located in the East valley off Power Road and Thomas, with easy access from the 202 freeway at 7555 E. Eagle Crest Drive in Mesa, AZ.
