Golf Canada Launches SHE PLAYS GOLF FESTIVAL, Women’s Weeklong Celebration Of Golf, In Vancouver, June 17-22

(Vancouver, BC, May 21, 2024) – Registration is open for She Plays Golf Festival, a citywide celebration of golf for women and girls taking place across the Greater Vancouver Area alongside the GOLFBC Group BC Women’s Open from June 17 – June 22, 2024.

The weeklong festival features inclusive programming for women and girls who are recreational golfers or exploring the sport for the first time. Host partners include First Tee BC, and Province of British Columbia, supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“She Plays Golf Festival connects women and girls to golf in a safe, welcoming, and non-intimidating environment,” said Laura Wilson, Golf Canada’s Director of Inclusion Programs and Safe Sport. “This will be a week-long celebration of women’s golf, addressing participation gaps and bringing greater awareness among women of the physical, psychological, and social benefits of golf.”

Events include:

  • Jr. Girls Tee it Up Clinics – a first trial opportunity for young girls with introductions to fundamental skills such as driving, chipping, and putting
  • Women’s Try Golf event - introductory events to encourage women to try golf in a low pressure, unintimidating environment
  • Learn To Scramble – a women focused fun and non-traditional nine-hole event for women and junior girls

Complementing the Festival events (also underway in Calgary and Toronto this summer) are concurrently held She Plays Golf Championships Series events in each host city; a $60,000 CAD professional golf championship contested over 54-holes for a field of 60 professionals and elite amateurs.

These enhanced championships – the Peloton Glencoe Invitational, GolfBC Group BC Women’s Open, and ORORO PGA Women’s Championship of Canada – will be newly linked together in a She Plays Golf Championship Series that marks the rebirth of a professional women’s golf series in Canada. The top two finishers in each event will qualify for the CPKC Women’s Open on the LPGA Tour, set for Earl Grey Golf Club in Calgary from July 23-28, 2024.
