 THE OVERALL ELIGIBILITY RULES - It starts with the eligibility requirements...

Players must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Satisfy the “Entry Requirements” on the respective event website - available here.
  2. Membership in a National Golf Association, authorized to adopt, manage and maintain the World Handicap System (WHS) within their jurisdiction.
  3. Have Amateur Status in accordance with the current Rules of Amateur Status as published by R&A Rules Limited and the USGA.
  4. Agreement with British Columbia Golf’s Championship Policies.

 

THE ZONE ALLOCATIONS - B.C. is split into eight zones and the vast majority of qualifiers (128) will come via the zones.

The total number of exemptions each zone received depends on the number of members who reside in the zone. Zones run their own Championship usually in late May or early June where the top finishers automatically qualify and form the team that will compete in the three person zone team competition. The remainder of their qualfiers come from their finish in the zone Championships. Some zones that are geograpchically large will run two separate competitons.

Zone One – Kootenays
• Zone 1E – 4 exemptions
• Zone 1W – 4 exemptions

Zone Two – Okanagan
• Zone 2 – 25 exemptions

Zone Three – Fraser Valley
• Zone 3 – 16 exemptions

Zone Four – Delta, Greater Vancouver, Squamish, Sunshine Coast
• Zone 4 – 33 exemptions

Zone Five – Capital
• Zone 5 – 18 exemptions

Zone Six – Upper Vancouver Island
• Zone 6 – 15 exemptions

Zone Seven – Northwest Coast
• Zone 7 – 4 exemptions

Zone Eight – Cariboo Peace River
• Zone 8N – 4 exemptions
• Zone 8S – 4 exemptions
• Whitehorse – 1 exemption

 

THE PREVIOUS RESULTS ALLOCATIONS - One way you can get an extended invitation is to win or place highly in a previous year...

If someone does not qualfy via the Zone allocations, they can qualify through the following:
• Being a champion from past 7 years
• Being in the top 10 from the previous year's Championship
• Being a current National Champion from B.C. (Cdn Am and Sr.)
• Lifetime Exemption – Doug Roxburgh
• Previous Year's B.C. Senior Men’s Champion
• Previous Year's B.C. Junior Boys’ Champion
• Previous Year's B.C. Men’s Mid-Amateur Champion
• Previous Year's All Abilities Men’s Gross Champion
• Current Indigenous Championship British Columbia Men's Gross Champion

 

THE "SPECIAL" EXEMPTIONS - One comes from hosting with the others generally intended for players who are unable to compete in Zone qualifiers

• Host Club Exemption (1)
• Presidential Nominees (3)
• Collegiate Exemptions (3)

 

THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUALIFIER - This is a last chance to get in with a single good round

• Supplemental Qualifier (minimum 3 up to the number required to get up to the 156 field)
  - The B.C. Amateur Supplemental Qualifier is open to 60 amateur golfers. Entrants must have a handicap factor of 6.0 or less. If the field is oversubscribed at the time entries close, priority will be given as follows:
1. Foreign and out-of-province entries.
2. B.C. players who did not attempt to qualify in their zone.
3. B.C. players who failed their Zone trials.
If the Qualifier is oversubscribed, the entrants in Category 3 will be cut to the entrants with the lowest handicap factors.
