Team Canada’s high-performance golf program, launched in 2003, is a vital part of Golf Canada’s commitment to developing elite Canadian golfers. The program aims to support 30 players in reaching the LPGA and PGA TOUR by 2032 through expanded talent identification, a well-resourced national team, and collaboration with coaches, instructors, and provincial associations.
Athletes are selected each November for either Team Canada or Team Canada – NextGen based on performance evaluations by a selection committee. Upon joining, players sign an athlete agreement outlining expectations for excellence, including participation standards, anti-doping policies, Code of Conduct, anti-harassment guidelines, travel protocols, and equipment requirements. A comprehensive onboarding process also emphasizes off-course health and well-being.
The program operates year-round, providing personalized support in fitness, sports psychology, nutrition, technique, tactical execution, equipment, and international competition. Each athlete is expected to fully commit to their development with the long-term goal of competing at the highest professional level.
Team Canada athletes may also be nominated for Sport Canada’s Athlete Assistance Program, which helps offset expenses, allowing them to focus on training and competition. Additional financial aid may be available to amateur players based on demonstrated need.
