There is a friendly wager that takes place between the 'Home of Golf' at St Andrews in Scotland and 'The Cradle of Golf' at Pinehurst, more specifically, Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.

The wager between the two historic clubs first came to be in 2016 when Alex Podlogar of Pinehurst Resort had an idea and floated it to his counterpart, Laurie Watson at St Andrews.

Following the ugliness that unfortunately arose during this year's Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York, this story helps put in perspective how golf can truly embrace the concept of a 'friendly wager' that serves to reward a victor but in a manner that is not hurtful and ultimately demonstrates a sign of respect between both parties.

Please click HERE to read Alex Podlogar's account of what this friendly wager is and how it came to be, with this year's event representing the 5th such betting occasion.
