GATINEAU, QC, August 1, 2025 – Christina Lake’s Austin Krahn completed the 120th Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship in a tie for 14th, finishing at 2-under par over four rounds. His steady play at the co-host facilities, Rivermead and Royal Ottawa, included a second-round 67 at Royal Ottawa— and a final round 70 that featured a 33 on the back nine. By finishing inside the top 20, Krahn earns an exemption into the 2026 Canadian Amateur.
Other British Columbians also made their mark. Mackenzie Bickell of Richmond posted a T33 finish at +4 while Vernon’s Ryan Vest finished T43 at +7, highlighted by impressive opening rounds of 67 at both Royal Ottawa and Rivermead. Delta’s Dustin Franko tied for 50th at +8, riding a standout 66 in the second round to stay competitive. Burnaby’s Abhay Minhas rounded out the BC finishers, placing T76 at +15.
In total, five BC players made the cut and gained valuable national championship experience. Three other British Columbians narrowly missed the +3 cut, each finishing just one shot shy at +4: Andrew Rouble (Kelowna), Luke Schaal (Invermere), and Tim Hachey (Osoyoos).
Team BC, which entered as defending inter-provincial champions, was unable to defend with Ontario earning its 33rd Willingdon Cup title.
At the top of the leaderboard, Sydney, Australia’s Declan O’Donovan edged Team Canada’s Isaiah Ibit in a thrilling two-hole playoff. Both players finished at 13-under-par (267), with Ibit forcing the playoff after birdies on 16, 17 and 18. O’Donovan ultimately prevailed with a birdie on the second playoff hole to become the first Australian to win the Earl Grey Cup since 1993. His victory earns him entries into the 2026 U.S. Open and next year’s RBC Canadian Open.
