Maggie Zhang already has the B.C. U15 Championship on her resumé. Now the 14-year-old Richmond resident is in position to add a Canadian title.

Zhang opened the Canadian U15 Girls Championship at Pitt Meadows Golf Club with a two-under 70. She has a one-shot lead on Ava Gilbert of Toronto and Kathleen Dunn of Surrey.

Zhang, who won last year’s BC U15 title at Bowen Island Golf Club by 14 shots, had three birdies and just one bogey in her first round.

The 36-hole championship wraps up on Thursday.

Four players are tied for fifth at one-over par, including Grace Fan of Vancouver and Ari Tûr North Vancouver.

The Canadian U15 Boys Championship is also being contested at Pitt Meadows. Kaige Zhu of Niagara on the Lake, Ont., leads by two after opening with a five-under 67.

Jayden Arnold of Calgary is alone in second place, while B.C. U15 Boys champion Owen Beaulac of Victoria, Daniel Lim of Vancouver and Bennett Love of Red Deer, Alta., are tied for third after shooting 70s.
