Victoria GC Pair Win Again: Bernakevitch & Doell Deliver Record-Tying Triumph at PING Canada TOC
OLIVER, B.C. — Via Press Release - Victoria Golf Club’s head professional Lindsay Bernakevitch and 19-time men’s champion Craig Doell survived sun, squalls and a stacked field on May 27 to win the 2025 PING Canada Tournament of Champions presented by Maui Jim Sunglasses at Fairview Mountain Golf Club.
The pair combined for nine birdies in the best-ball shotgun, reaching 9-under 63 and edging Kelowna G&CC’s Rob Anderson/Mike Byland by one. The title is Victoria’s fourth (2007, 2015, 2017, 2025), tying Point Grey for the club record, while both Bernakevitch and Doell join the event’s three-win individual mark.
Their decisive moment came on the par-3 third—last hole of the day—after weather had battered the finishing stretch. Bernakevitch, the reigning PGA of BC champion, stuffed his tee shot to 20 feet; Doell placed his at 18 feet and drained the putt. “We knew eight-under might force a playoff; nine would win,” Bernakevitch said. “Craig buried it—centre cup—and we just erupted.”
Doell called the victory “an honour” for a club steeped in history. Bernakevitch’s resurgence continues a late-career flourish: five PGA of BC titles from 2011-18, a drought from 2019-23, then last year’s playoff triumph and now another marquee win. “I’ve been practising just to beat my son,” he laughed. “Good attitude, lots of reps, good things happen.” Doell quipped, “Lindsay is like a fine wine—better with age!”
Southern Vancouver Island was well represented: Royal Colwood’s Gordy Scutt/Kevin Carrigan took eighth at 5-under, while Arbutus Ridge’s Andrew Hajer/Darren Moilanen posted 74. Fairview Mountain’s Brian McDonald/Justin Brandt and Nk’Mip Canyon’s Todd Tweedy/Rick Johnson shared third on 65.
The PGA of BC credited title sponsor PING Canada, presenting partner Maui Jim, supporting sponsor Motocaddy, and new waterproof scorecard supplier Rock Paper Corp. Fairview Mountain’s staff, led by head professional Rob Tadey, earned praise for world-class hospitality.
